Supporting Fujikura Gakuen: An Idea of the Founder Still Upheld Today
–The Starting Point for Social Contribution Activities Aimed at Creating an Inclusive Society–

What is Fujikura Gakuen?

Fujikura Gakuen, a social welfare corporation, was founded on June 7, 1919, nearly 100 years ago in the town of Motomachi on Izu Oshima. Harukichi Nakauchi, the blood brother of the founder Zenpachi Fujikura (and originally the auditor), donated a sizable amount of his personal assets (currently worth approximately 2 billion yen) and 40,000 tsubo of land (approx. 132,000 m2) on Izu Oshima for the land and building to establish the school and residence for mentally handicapped children and adults. Today, Fujikura Gakuen has facilities on Izu Oshima and in Tama (Hachioji City). These facilities have around 100 workers who provide 24-hour care and education to approximately 130 individuals.

Since our founding, the succession of presidents and officers served as governors in supporting management of Fujikura Gakuen, and both the company and individual employees have continued to donate to this day. We intend to carefully preserve this tradition of activities that support Fujikura Gakuen in the future, as the “starting point” of Fujikura’s corporate social contribution activities.

Each year, new employees participate in volunteer activities at Tama Fujikura Gakuen as part of their training. They created an indoor garden patch and painted the interior of the facility in fiscal 2017. The volunteer activities deepened the bonds between employees, and enabled them to experience the high ideals of their predecessors and confirm the importance of supporting Fujikura Gakuen as the recipients of Fujikura’s DNA.

Installation of Vending Machines to Support Fujikura Gakuen

We have installed vending machines at Fujikura’s head office and each of its works to support Fujikura Gakuen. When Fujikura Group employees buy beverages from these vending machines, part of the proceeds is donated to Fujikura Gakuen. The installation of these vending machines was achieved through co-creation with POKKA SAPPORO Food & Beverage Ltd., a company in the Sapporo Breweries group.
