Millennium Forest News from August 1st

As August begins, the severe heat continues in the Millennium Forest.
When you visit the forest in the afternoon, you will hear a loud "jiji!" cry echoing throughout the area.
I followed the sound and found a brown cicada.
The cicadas blend in beautifully with the patterns on the trunks, making them difficult to find, but if you search the trees while listening for their sounds, you may be able to find them.

The flower with the most eye-catching orange petals is the daylily, a member of the daylily genus.
This plant is used as both food and medicine and is loved by many people.
The flowers bloom in the morning and finish blooming by the evening, and are therefore also aspect as one-day flowers.

The flower blooming in the upper pond, with its aspect purple petals, is Lythrum salicaria.
It grows in moist places such as marshes and near rice fields.
Lythrum salicaria flowers from July to September.
Since it blooms during the Obon period, it has long been used as a Bon flower offered at graves and Buddhist altars.

At the Biodiversity Fair 2023, hosted by Biodiversity Team Koto, Fujikura exhibited the activities of Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods.
We also participated in a poster session held on Friday, July 14th, where we explained the efforts being made at Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods.
