Millennium Forest News from February 20th

When I visited the pond in the Millennium Forest, I was able to spot a bright blue kingfisher.
It perches on the branch of a tall tree, surveys its surroundings for a while, and then gazes intently at the surface of the pond, perhaps searching for fish.
He then jumped into the water with great force and was seen successfully catching a fish.

The trees in the forest have lost their leaves, opening up the view and making it easier than usual to see the movements of wild birds.
In the quiet winter forest, the kingfisher's vivid colors and quick movements were particularly impressive.

This is a witch hazel, a plant that blooms before spring.
Even though it is still cold, the sight of the flowers spreading their long, slender petals seems to herald the arrival of spring in the garden.

Meanwhile, many new buds of hydrangeas are beginning to appear in various parts of the park.
Although they are still small buds at the moment, they appear to be quietly preparing for the warmer season.
