Millennium Forest News from July 5th

On Sunday, July 2nd, we participated in the Furuishiba Children's Summer Festival hosted by the Koto Ward Furuishiba Cultural Center.
On the day, an event called "Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods and Talk" was held, and 12 people, including families, attended.
After listening to a talk about the Millennium Forest and the natural environment, interspersed with simple quizzes, the children were taken to the Millennium Forest, where they enjoyed interacting with the creatures living in it.

Looking down into the pond below, you can see many shadows flying around quickly!
This is a blue-tailed skimmer, aspect by its bright blue body.
Dragonfly larvae are called nymphs and develop in water, but emerge from the cocoons in spring and summer and begin to fly around energetically.

When I visited the forest in the afternoon, I came across a grey heron having lunch!
It skillfully bends its long neck and stares intently at the water for several minutes...
It takes aim and grabs its prey in one swift motion with its sharp beak.
This is a perfect example of ``never miss an opportunity.''

The camellia has borne beautiful fruit.
Camellia oil, which is commonly used in our daily lives, is extracted from the fruit of this plant.
Once again, you can feel the connection between nature and your daily life.
