Millennium Forest News from November 5th

As we enter November, the temperature drops sharply and the end of autumn approaches.
Dragonflies are often associated with summer, but red dragonflies can also be seen in autumn.
The sight of its bright red body flying against the autumn sky is truly beautiful.

While observing the fruits of the Japanese bark tree by the pond, I discovered a grasshopper!
If you look closely, it looks like one of them is carrying the other on its back. This is a piggyback grasshopper. It is aspect for the female to carry the male on her back.

Furthermore, I managed to capture a butterfly flying around near the pond! Is this a lycaenid butterfly?
The cute patterns on the small feathers give a sense of the delicacy of nature.

On Friday, June 20th, students from the Department of Sustainability, Faculty of Engineering, Musashino University, visited Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods as part of their class.
After an explanation in the gazebo about the background to the creation of the Millennium Forest and Fujikura Group 's efforts to protect biodiversity, the participants were given a tour of the premises.

On Sunday, July 6th, we participated in the Furuishiba Children's Summer Festival held at the Furuishiba Cultural Center in Koto Ward.
Fujikura planned an event called "Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods Talk and Tour," which was attended by 18 elementary school students and their parents.
On the day, the participants were introduced to nature and living creatures while taking a walk through Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods, and then enjoyed a talk about the natural environment in the form of a quiz in a Japanese-style room in the cultural center.
We had prepared a "Living Creature Lottery" as a prize for those who answered correctly, and surprisingly, everyone got it right!
It was a fun and educational time, and the venue was filled with excitement.

On Tuesday, August 5th, we cooperated with the "Summer Vacation Elementary School Students Environmental Study Session" sponsored by Koto Ward, and 32 elementary school students and their parents who live in the ward visited us.
After a brief explanation of Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods and the environmental issues surrounding us, the participants were given a tour of the park using a handout checklist.
Even under the strong midsummer sun, the children were full of energy, making sure to drink plenty of water and take breaks!
We heard comments such as, "I'm so happy to see a kingfisher!" and "There are lots of fish!" and everyone enjoyed interacting with nature.
