CSR Procurement Initiatives

In order to deliver high-environmental quality products to customers, the first and foremost prerequisite is that the raw materials and parts that make up the products themselves are of high environmental quality. Based on CSR procurement, Fujikura Group is taking environmental considerations into account throughout the entire supply chain.

Fujikura Group Partners Meeting

Direct dialogue with our suppliers is essential to promote and permeate CSR procurement.
Fujikura Group At Fujikura Group, we hold annual " Partners Meetings" in Tokyo and Shanghai to promote CSR procurement throughout our supply chain with the understanding and cooperation of our suppliers.
We also conduct a supply chain management survey of participating suppliers to ascertain the actual status of CSR activities in the supply chain.
In addition, at the Partners Meeting, we share with our suppliers the Fujikura Group management plan, business description, CSR procurement guideline, and important ESG-related issues (importance of human rights due diligence in the supply chain, provision of information on trends in regulations on environmentally hazardous substances and responses to climate change, etc.).

Managing environmental aspects of the supply chain through CSR procurement guideline

We revision our CSR Procurement guideline to the fifth edition in August 2021, complying with the latest version of the RBA Code of Conduct and clearly stating that we will set specific greenhouse gas reduction targets and manage them, and we are working to spread this throughout our supply chain.

Green Procurement

Fujikura Group is committed to environmentally friendly green procurement activities, such as proactively adopting green materials that reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Effective use of resources and reduction disposal

Fujikura Group 2025 Environmental Management Activities guideline Based on the 3rd edition of "disposal Zero Emissions" and the Fujikura Group Long-Term Environmental Vision 2050 "Effective Use of Resources and Resource Recycling," we will promote the efficient use of resources and reduce the amount of disposal emissions associated with production.
Fujikura Group defines zero disposal emissions as "reducing the amount of disposal emitted by business activities to zero for direct final disposal and simple incineration."

consolidated company in Japan are working towards the goals of: 1) reducing disposal generation per unit by at least 3% per year compared to fiscal 2020; and 2) maintaining disposal emissions.

Initiatives for fiscal 2023

Reducing disposal emissions

We are working to reduce the amount of waste by increasing the yield rate (the ratio of finished products to raw materials) in the production process (Reduce), collecting and reusing wooden drums and pallets used to transport products (disposal), and selling valuable materials such as iron, aluminum, and plastic scraps to businesses (Recycle).

Zero disposal emissions

At each site, we are actively engaged in activities to separate disposal materials and promote the reduction of the amount of direct final disposal and recycling. In addition, when disposing of disposal materials, we select a disposal company that can recycle as much as possible and strive to reduce the amount of non-recycling (the total amount of direct final disposal and simple incineration).

Domestic total waste and recycling rate

The total amount of disposal and valuables generated by Fujikura Group domestic bases was 13,274 tons (a decrease of 1,178 tons YOY (Year Over Year)). Of this, 12,605 tons was recycled, and 105 tons was sent to landfill (an increase of 11 tons YOY (Year Over Year)). The non-recycled rate was 5.0% (recycled rate was 95.0%), a slight decrease from the previous year's 5.1%.
Our disposal reduction activities have set the goal of achieving "zero disposal emissions." However, as was the case last year, due to foreign governments' bans on the import of waste plastic, domestic recycling capacity is insufficient, and some of the waste plastic generated by group companies is being directly disposed of or simply incinerated.
