The Fujikura Group recognizes that its business activities are closely linked to the global environment. Based on this understanding, we strive to protect the environment and aim to be a corporate group that is friendly to both people and the planet. All living things live by supporting each other directly and indirectly, and our lives and livelihoods are supported by the many blessings brought about by biodiversity.
In response to requests from local residents and growing interest in biodiversity, the Fujikura Group established the “Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods” at its head office site in November 2010. In November 2016, we also launched the “Fujikura-Sakura Millennium Woods Project” and developed a woodland area within the Sakura business.

Actions to mitigate the growing impact on biodiversity
Fujikura Group manages the environmental aspects (causes) of its business activities and is working to curb the increase in their impact on biodiversity.
1. We comply with environmental laws and regulations and work to prevent air and water pollution.
2. We have set CO₂ reduction targets and are addressing climate change by introducing renewable electricity (covering all electricity at the head office area and at the Fujikura Dia Cable Fukui Plant at group companies), installing solar panels, and promoting energy conservation (e.g., systematic replacement with LED lighting and energy‑saving equipment).
3. Waste Disposal: We are working toward zero emissions (zero landfill).
The Fujikura Group Guidelines on Biodiversity Conservation
In 2013, Fujikura Group formulated the "Fujikura Group Biodiversity guideline" and the "Fujikura Group Long-Term Biodiversity Vision and Roadmap 2030," and is working to raise awareness of biodiversity conservation among each and every Fujikura employee.
The Fujikura Group Guidelines on Biodiversity Conservation
1. We will be mindful of the possibility that our business projects could have an adverse impact on local ecosystems and communities in the areas surrounding project operations in Japan and overseas and fully take this possibility into consideration when developing each project plan.
2. We will take measures to reduce the environmental impact of our activities ranging from manufacturing and installation to related services, considering the product lifecycle and focusing on biodiversity conservation, this includes procurement of raw materials and our use/discharge of hazardous substances.
3. We will take measures to preserve or improve the environment of the areas surrounding our sites, focusing on appropriate treatment and reuse/recycling of waste oil, water and other forms of waste discharged in the course of our business operations.
4. We will support activities aimed at conserving and enhancing local and global biodiversity in cooperation with a variety of organizations ranging from non-profit/non-governmental organizations, educational/research institutes to local governments.
5. We will provide environmental education and other awareness-raising activities to all group employees, thus contributing to local and global efforts toward enhanced biodiversity.
Fujikura Group 's Initiative guideline
1. When promoting greening, we will give priority to the introduction of native and indigenous species.
2. We strive to recycle wastewater used in manufacturing process by returning it to water that can be used for aquatic life and agriculture.
3. Using the Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods bio-garden as a model, we will promote biodiversity conservation activities and greening in close collaboration with the local community.

Fujikura Group Biodiversity Long-Term Vision Roadmap 2030
As part of the redevelopment of its head office area (Koto-ku, Tokyo), Fujikura Group established the bio garden "Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods" in November 2010. This is the flagship of Fujikura Group 's efforts to protect biodiversity.
In 2013, in order to expand biodiversity conservation efforts to the entire group, we proposed turning the green spaces owned by each of Fujikura Group 's business sites into Satoyama parks, and developed a roadmap leading up to 2030.

Sakura business Initiatives
"Fujikura Sakura Millennium Forest" Project
Based on the "Fujikura Group Biodiversity Long-Term Vision and Roadmap 2030" and Fujikura employee health management activities under Fujikura Group 's Health Management Declaration, Fujikura Group established the "Fujikura Sakura Millennium Forest Project" in November 2016 and has been considering how to utilize the rich natural green space that spreads within the Fujikura Sakura business (Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture).
In this project, we conducted a vegetation survey with a biodiversity expert consultant and created a zoning plan for the Millennium Forest. Based on this, we have promoted the transformation of the green space into a satoyama (traditional Japanese rural landscape) by protecting rare plants, felling dense trees, planting native tree species, and developing walking trails. Through these activities, approximately 32,000 square meters of green space has been developed as "Fujikura Sakura Millennium Forest," and is being used to promote the health and vitality of our employees. In the fall, we hold a "Children's Exciting Field Trip" for the families of employees at the Sakura business. Participants enjoyed the beautiful nature and got a taste of a short hike. Children were engrossed in digging up sweet potatoes grown in a field created in a corner of the forest. We plan to continue holding events that Fujikura employee and their families can enjoy in the future.
Participation in Chiba Biodiversity Business Network
The Sakura business is participating in the Chiba Biodiversity Corporate Network and promoting biodiversity initiatives. This network, organized by Chiba Prefecture, includes 27 corporate members and 11 supporting organizations within the prefecture. A biodiversity satellite office has been set up in the Sakura business cafeteria, where various publicity are available. Information is also posted on a dedicated site on business 's website and distributed to each workplace to facilitate information sharing.
