Fujikura Cube, a Special Subsidiary

Aiming to create a society and corporation where all people play a role

The Fujikura Group CSR Committee promotes the employment of people with disabilities as one of our Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Going forward, the activities of Fujikura Cube, our special subsidiary for promoting the employment of people with disabilities, will be far more than an important component of our CSR activities: they will also stand as our response to the need for diversity, sought from our company by both Japan and the rest of the world. Through the development of our company, we would like to actively contribute to the future of Japan and the future of local communities, aiming to realize a country where all citizens are dynamically engaged in the economy.

Our Group has promoted initiatives for the employment of people with disabilities as one of our corporate social responsibilities (CSR). Guided by the Group’s Philosophy of Diversity, established “to cultivate an organizational climate that enables a diverse array of employees to fully utilize their strengths and maximize their abilities through proactive recognition of each other's individuality,” together with our Management Policy for Respecting Diversity, which “create[s] a company-wide environment optimal for mutual respect, encouragement, and cooperation... where each employee can fully demonstrate the abilities they command,” we aim to realize a society that proactively employs people with disabilities: a society where everyone can work and flourish.

On November 2, 2015, the Group founded Fujikura Cube Ltd. On April 1 the following year, five new staff members with disabilities were welcomed into the company, and operations began with an aim toward achieving Special Subsidiary certification. This new company, Fujikura Cube, contracts to do work with Fujikura Sakura Works and other companies within our Group. The dedication and effort these employees make is a pleasure and joy for those who have a relationship with their contracted work.

On June 14, 2016, Fujikura Cube was accepted as a Special Subsidiary, receiving its certification at the Kiba Public Employment Security Office (Koto-ku, Tokyo). As it further promotes the employment of people with disabilities, Fujikura Cube will expand upon the scope and content of the work, improve the efficiency of the Group's operations, and contribute to the development of the Group, all while aiming to realize within local communities a society where everyone can work and flourish.

What is a special subsidiary?

Based in the Act on the Promotion of the Employment of Disabled Persons of Japan, a special subsidiary is a corporation which has obtained approval from the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare, after satisfying certain requirements in regards to the employment of people with disabilities. A special subsidiary allows its number of employees with disabilities to be calculated as the employment portion of the parent company and corporate group for the calculation of the rate of employment of people with disabilities.

Introducing Fujikura Cube’s activities

These five new hires had just concluded the work commencement ceremony. With a commemorative photograph taken beneath the cherry trees, they began their new lives as employees and as corporate citizens.

This picture shows greenification work at the company’s Sakura Works. Today was the day for preparing the lawn. Under their advisor’s guidance, they completed their work with attention to safety.

This was their very first payday. Their smiles went cheek to cheek with joy. A big thank you to all the staff.

This work involved filling the in-house mailing bags for our company, which is Fujikura Cube’s parent company. They did their work carefully, thinking of the old company employees and the families who would receive the mail.

At the end of every working day, all new employees make a record of the day’s events. This is also the time for employees to engage in important communication with the advisors.
