Participating in NTT East's "IOWN Lab" to contribute to the realization of next-generation ICT infrastructure - Conducting joint demonstration experiments of low-latency, large-capacity transmission combining all-photonics network and millimeter wave technology -

January 24, 2024
Fujikura Ltd.

Fujikura Ltd. (Director, President and CEO: Naoki Okada) has joined the "IOWN Lab" (opened on January 24, 2024), which was established by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation (President: Naoki Shibuya; hereafter NTT East) to conduct joint demonstrations for creating use cases utilizing IOWN technology.
One of the use cases is to build a high-speed video transmission environment, and a demonstration experiment of low-latency, large-capacity transmission that combines an All-Photonics Network (APN) and millimeter wave technology was conducted jointly by four companies: Fujitsu, NTT East, NTT Comware Corporation (President and CEO: Kuroiwa Masato), and TeraPixel Technologies Inc. (President and CEO: Kawahara Naoki).
In this demonstration experiment, our 60 GHz millimeter wave wireless communication module was used to transmit video footage of an automatic patrol robot data center.

For more information about IOWN Lab and this demonstration experiment, please see the NTT East news release below.

60GHz band millimeter wave wireless communication module
A wireless communication module that uses millimeter waves in the 60GHz frequency band. The 60GHz band does not require a radio station license and can be used with a simple system configuration, so there are high expectations for the development of communication and industrial equipment that uses this frequency band. Our modules are characterized by their world-leading performance, including automatic beamforming, throughput of over 1Gbps at a distance of 500m, and low latency on the order of milliseconds, and by the fact that they are shipped with a certification of technical standards conformity (a certification that mobile phones, wireless LAN devices, etc. conformity to the technical standards of the Radio strong point / feature) from a certification body.

■Our main 60GHz millimeter wave research and development efforts are as follows:

Demonstrated effectiveness when application to the backhaul of a local 5G communications system

Developed a high sensitivity version and started various communication experiments in the field

High-sensitivity version to be exhibited at MWC Barcelona 2023
