Fujikura Ltd. (Director, President and CEO Okada Naoki) has developed a 60 GHz millimeter wave wireless communication module *2 that has obtained technical conformity certification *1 and began supplying samples in late August.
The newly developed 60 GHz band millimeter wave wireless communication module has been modified to an optimal structure so that the module alone can obtain technical conformity certification, and will be shipped with technical conformity certification obtained from a certification body. By incorporating this module that has already obtained technical conformity certification, it will be possible to develop communications and industrial equipment that uses the 60 GHz band in a shorter period of time and at lower cost.
The improved module maintains its world-leading strong point / feature features, including "automatic beamforming and a throughput of over 1 Gbps at a distance of 500 m," and studies are underway with the aim of commercializing it in the first quarter of fiscal year 2023. By providing this module, we will support our customers' development of communications equipment, and will continue to absorb market needs and promote the development of high-added-value industrial millimeter wave communications modules.

Terminology
1 Technical Standard conformity Certification (Technical Qualification Certificate)
Specified radio equipment (radio equipment specified in the Ordinance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications for use in small-scale radio stations, including mobile phones and wireless LAN equipment. It is a certification that the specified radio equipment (including cell phones, wireless LAN equipment, etc.) complies with the technical standards of the Radio Law conformity.
Devices that use the 60 GHz band must obtain this technical certification. The difficulty and high cost of testing and measurement for this purpose has been an issue, and only a limited number of specialized companies have developed devices for this purpose. The newly developed module addresses this issue by using our in-house 60GHz testing and measurement environment to acquire all the necessary data for technical qualification certification, and then shipping the module after obtaining the technical qualification certification from the certification authority.
*2 60GHz millimeter wave wireless communication
This is wireless communication that uses millimeter waves in the 60 GHz frequency band.
In recent years, there has been an increasing need for gigabit-class high-speed wireless communications for industrial use. However, the use of the currently popular fifth-generation mobile communications system (5G) and local 5G requires the acquisition of a radio station license, which poses challenges for industrial systems, such as flexibility in installation and costs.
On the other hand, the 60 GHz band does not require a radio station license and can be used with a simple system configuration, so there are hopes that this frequency band will be used for the development of communications and industrial equipment.
