Obtained experimental test station license for new 5G frequency band (66-71GHz) and started field experiments
August 5, 2020
Fujikura Ltd.
Fujikura Ltd. (President and CEO: Masahiko Ito) has developed a millimeter wave wireless communication module that operates in the 66 to 71 GHz band, a frequency band newly identified at the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) as a frequency band for 5G. The company has obtained an experimental test station license and has begun various communications experiments in the field.
This frequency band has already been approved as an unlicensed frequency band in the United States, but since it was newly identified at WRC-19 as a frequency band that can be allocated worldwide for 5G, its use is expected to expand worldwide. By starting field communications experiments in this frequency band at an early stage, we will clarify its characteristics and effective usage patterns and promote the development of future 5G wireless communication devices.
In addition, Fujitsu has begun providing samples of 60 GHz mmWave Wireless Communications Module that operates at 57 to 71 GHz, which is also application in the experimental test station, and an SDK (Software Development Kit) that connects the network processing unit.
The SDK functions as a millimeter wave wireless router, and by connecting to external network devices, you can check the communication characteristics. Furthermore, you can use the SDK commands to check detailed information about the wireless line, such as the signal-to-noise ratio and modulation method settings.
The millimeter wave wireless communication module can be applied to 60GHz band "backhaul equipment," "access points (AP)," "customer premises equipment (CPE)," "V2X equipment," application With this SDK, we will support the development of communication equipment by providing an environment that allows customers to more easily evaluate millimeter wave wireless communication modules.
