By participating in the UNGC activities, the company is helping the United Nations build up an international framework beyond national and regional boundaries. Under the leadership of the United Nations and the Global Compact Network Japan (GC-NJ), the Fujikura Group is conducting activities for the establishment of the framework. [Main Activities] In CSR supply chain management activities, the Fujikura group held partners' meetings for suppliers in Japan, China, and Thailand. In the meetings, we requested efforts toward CSR from participating businesses based on the UN Global Compact's 10 principles that stress the importance of "human rights" and "corruption prevention" and asked for cooperation with the Fujikura group's CSR activities. On September 26th of 2015, the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" (Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs]* 17 goals, 169 targets) was adopted at the United Nations summit held at the UN for international topics that nations, local governments, business, and groups must address. Given CSR promotions, the Fujikura group implemented campaigns for dissemination as well as making it clear which of the 17 goals and 169 targets set as development goals were "things we have already done," "things we will address," and "things outside our scope for involvement." Using a matrix approach, we set which fields and themes (priority topics) we would actively become involved in, and are promoting efforts for conquering the 2030 topics in collaboration with society internationally.*SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals. Activities Supporting the UN Global Compact Following a decision made by its CSR Committee (Management Committee) in July 2013, Fujikura Ltd. announced its support to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), which outlines the universal and international principles on human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption. Subsequently, on September 3, 2013, the company became a signatory to the UNGC and also joined the Global Compact Network Japan (GC-NJ). The UNGC, which is based on the Ten Principles, provides a global framework for companies and other organizations to act as good corporate citizens for the creation of a sustainable society by displaying leadership in a responsible manner. It is an international behavior on a global scale trying to cooperate in each position. Unlike the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), SDGs expect creativity and innovation power to solve problems, not only in the country but also in companies. In addition, SDGs covers a wide range of issues related to corporate activities such as climate change and environmental degradation, so we can work together with corporate management strategies. *SDGs(Sustainable Development Goals) The following can be considered as the merit that a company can enjoy. 1. Potential for future business opportunities 2. To deal with issues related to corporate activities such as climate change, we can collaborate with management issues of companies 3. It will lead to the stability of society and expansion of the market necessary for the continuous development of the company 4. Companies can expect evaluation and support of stakeholders such as customers and employees through integration of SDGs and management issues Relationship between the formulation of "SDGs" and the Fujikura Group At the United Nations Summit held at the United Nations Headquarters on September 26, 2015, 17 targets and 169 targets for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) were adopted. SDGs are international issues addressed by nations, municipalities, companies, organizations and individuals to participate in during the 15 years from 2016 to 2030, and humanitarian efforts. In developing the SDGs, not only the delegates of each country but also groups, companies and individuals participate. Among them, the United Nations Global Compact played its central role. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact, the Group participated in the activities of formulating SDGs by providing the results of examination on "Goals and targets that can be addressed as a company. Toward the formulation of the UN SDGs Following the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ending in 2015, the post-2015 Development Agenda "Sustainable Development Objectives (SDGs) " was decided, the Group watched the trend from the United Nations Summit in September 2015 and started considering future efforts. SDG Compass, the guidelines for promoting SDGs The Fujikura Group uses SDG Compass as a guideline for promoting efforts towards SDGs. SDG Compass is a handbook "SDGs Corporate Behavioral Guidelines" that clearly shows the process of how company should use SDGs while proceeding. SDG Compass was created with the collaboration of the United Nations Global Compact, the Global Reporting Initiative(GRI), and the World Business Council (WBCSD). In addition, SDG Compass shows the process of how enterprises align SDGs with management strategy and contribute to SDGs as five steps. Concept of Corporate Responsibility of SDG Compass SDG Compass seeks corporations to comply with relevant laws regardless of size, type of business, and location in which they operate, to maintain the minimum standards established internationally and respect the universal authority. This way of thinking is similar to the concept of the CSR philosophy and basic policy stipulated by the Group. In addition, the Group is engaged in international activities such as the United Nations Global Compact, the United Nations' Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, OECD 'Multinational Corporate Behavior Guidelines', ILO' Three-Party Declaration on Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy Principles' Guidelines and Initiatives are the basis of CSR promotion, so we also follow the way that SDG Compass is pursuing in the way we proceed. How to Proceed with the Fujikura Group To promote SDGs efforts, the Group utilizes the five steps (Figure 1) of SDG Compass and is working on each step in order. [Five steps on SDG Compass] Step 1: Understand SDGs Step 2: Determine priority issues Step 3: Set a goal Step 4: Integrating management Step 5: Reporting and communication [Figure 1] 5 Steps of SDG Compass Fujikura Group Initiatives The efforts to determine the "priority issues" of the SDGs were decided through the following three analyzes: (1)Relationship of SDGs and the Fujikura group's "materiality", and "2020 Medium-term CSR Priority Measures" The Fujikura group's CSR committee confirmed the relationship of the "4 fields of emphasis (materiality)" set down in the Fujikura Group CSR Principles and the SDGs 17 goals. It was confirmed that each field of the "4 materialities" connected to any of the SDGs 17 goals. Also, the correlation between the 12 mid-term goal themes of the Fujikura group's "CSR Priority Measures" ending in 2020 and the SDGs' 17 goals was confirmed. The result was confirmation of many thematic relations and of the possibility of contributions toward SDGs. [Figure 2] Interrelationship among four CSR materialities, SDGs 17 goals, 20 medium-term CSR priority measures (2) "Matrix analysis" and "Analysis of high values" of 17 SDG goals. The Fujikura group decided "priority topics" for topics to address first from the 17 SDG goals using materiality and matrix methods along with the SDG Compass guidelines. The CSR committee used a "averaged matrix analysis" (Fig. 4) to analyze average points distributions for the 17 SDG goals. Goals were listed on the two axes of "societal interest" and "relevance to Fujikura business," and rated in four tiers. Furthermore, analysis was also implemented to evaluate significance based on total ratings for items rated "extremely high" or "high" by any committee members. Matrix analysis (3) Supply Chain Mapping Analysis Determining SDG Priority Issues In order to decide "priority issues" from the 17 SDGs, we comprehensively analyzed and evaluated using the following three methods: (1) "Matrix Analysis"; (2) “High (Important) Number Analysis”, with those that the committee members considered to have a high degree of interest / influence; and (3) "Supply Chain SDGs Mapping Analysis". As a result, we selected the following six items as Priority SDG Issues. This also corresponds to the 2020 Medium-term CSR Priority Measures, as well as "Integrate into Management" of step 4 of the SDG Compass, which is the guideline for SDGs. Our priority SDG issues are the six goals as follows. [Status of Main Efforts for the 6th Heading] GOAL 5 Gender Equality "Diversity" Pledge Employment of Diverse Personnel Acquisition of "Eruboshi" for Promotion of Advancement of Women Promotion of Employment of People with Disabilities GOAL 6 Clean Water and Sanitation Setting Improvement Goals for Water Use Content Survey for Water Risks GOAL 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth Joined the "Iku-Boss" Business Alliance Tele-working Trials "Kurumin" Qualification for Child Care Supporting Business Qualification for the "White 500" Excellent Corporation for Health Management 2017 GOAL 13 Climate Action CO2 Total Emissions Reduction (domestic and overseas) GOAL 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions Participation of All Employees in Management Philosophy MVCV Training Development for Overseas Groups GOAL 17 Partnerships for the Goals Implementation of Partners' Meetings Promotion of Partner CSR Activities Sophistication Activities Discussion and promotion of understanding of SDGs in administrator dialogues Explanation of SDGs during new employee training Display of SDG campaign posters Creation of an explanatory blog for the dissemination of SDGs through the company Posting of the SDGs logo on each CSR poster Participation in SDGs extra-company events, etc. Response to the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction "Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction” Four Priority Actions Response Table of Our Group FY2016 1.
