Fujikura Exhibits Millimeter-Wave Products at MWC Barcelona 2023
-First 28GHz-band phased array antenna module live demo-
-Debut of high-sensitivity version of 60GHz-band millimeter-wave wireless communications module-

February 1st, 2023
Fujikura Ltd.

Fujikura Ltd. (President & CEO: Naoki Okada) announced that it will exhibit our millimeter-wave products at MWC Barcelona 2023, the largest mobile industry exhibition to be held in Spain. The 28GHz-band phased array antenna module (PAAM) “FutureAccess™” ※1 for 5G base stations will be demonstrated for the first time, and a live demo using a 60GHz-band millimeter wave wireless communications module※2 will also be held. In addition, a static exhibition of a high-sensitivity version of the 60GHz-band millimeter-wave wireless communications module ※2 will be held for the first time. The demonstrations will take place in Hall 5 at booth 5J56 at MWC Barcelona from February 27th to March 2nd, 2023.

Contents of the Fujikura Booth

28GHz-band phased array antenna module(PAAM)『FutureAccess™』
• The first public display.
• Two Fujikura PAAM units are installed facing each other, and communication quality evaluation using modulated signals ※3 is demonstrated.
• You can experience ultra-fast continuous beam switching every 200 nano second.

           FutureAccessTM

60GHz-band millimeter-wave wireless communications module
• A high-sensitivity module that achieves even longer range performance beyond the world's top-level performance of "automatic beam forming, throughput of 1Gbps or more at a distance of 500m" will be unveiled for the first time.
• Real-time 4K video transmission combined with intoPIX※4's low-delay JPEG XS※5 codec allows you to experience high definition and sub-frame latency comparable to the original video.

60GHz-band millimeter-wave wireless communications module

Fujikura has been researching and developing millimeter-wave wireless communication technology for about 10 years. Currently, telecommunications companies around the world are adopting millimeter-wave wireless communication technology for 5G networks, and expectations are high for ultra-high-speed and low-latency communication. In order to realize even higher speed and larger capacity communications in Japan and around the world, we will continue to develop products for commercialization.

※1 28GHz-band phased array antenna module(PAAM)『FutureAccess™』:
The Fujikura PAAM is a fully integrated module consisting of an array antenna, beamforming ICs, frequency conversion IC and filters. The Fujikura PAAM is the industry’s highest performance module targeting indoor and outdoor applications such as fixed wireless access connecting a telecommunications carrier and its subscribers, high-speed mobile wireless access for mobile terminals (smartphones, etc.), and a trunk line between carrier backbone networks and base stations (wireless backhaul).

※2 60GHz-band millimeter-wave wireless communications module:
This module utilizes the 60GHz-band. Since a 60GHz-band wireless communication system can be used without a license and with a simple configuration, the development of communication and industrial equipment that use the 60GHz-band is highly anticipated. The newly developed module has achieved world-class performance: automatic beam forming and a throughput of 1Gbps or more at a distance of 500m, and we aim to commercialize it in the second quarter of 2023.

※3 Modulated signal: An electrical signal for wireless data transmission, generated by changing the waveform according to the data to be transmitted

※4 intoPIX: A company based in Belgium that develops image compression/processing and transmission solutions. https://www.intopix.com

※5 JPEG XS: An international standard for image compression technology (ISO/IEC 21122) created by the JPEG Committee, a joint working group of the International Standardization Organization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
