Fujikura announces availability of industry leading 28GHz 5G mmWave PAAM (Phased Array Antenna Module)

Feb 25, 2022
Fujikura Ltd.

Fujikura, Ltd. (President & CEO: Masahiko Ito), a leading supplier to the telecom market today announces the availability of FutureAccess™, industry’s most integrated 28GHz 5G mmWave module, for both Mobile as well as fixed wireless infrastructure markets.

Fujikura is leveraging the PAAM architecture for 5G mmWave, which is validated by one of the Top 3 5G mobile telecom OEM, and who are already using the PAAM based RFIC in their 28GHz mmWave commercial platforms. Fujikura has invested in the PAAM technology as it provides the 5G mmWave infrastructure customers the best optimized performance, power, modularity, programmability, cost, and integration. Fujikura has an aggressive roadmap to commercialize this technology for other 5G mmWave bands while continuing to further optimize performance and cost. Fujikura FutureAccess™ is manufactured in the most advanced foundry for SiGe process technologies and assembled in the US with a leading global technology company that pioneered the PAAM technology.

Operators around the world are embracing mmWave for 5G networks (both mobile as well as fixed wireless access). Nowhere it is more pronounced especially in the US market, where top operators are expanding mmWave networks and use cases such as outdoor, indoor, repeaters/relays, etc. To accelerate further deployments and sustain the momentum, OEMs and operators need to achieve the best performance and total cost of ownership (TCO) for the mmWave components. Fujikura is specifically addressing the needs of the market by bringing to market, FutureAccess™, the best-in-class 5G mmWave RFIC module. Fujikura FutureAccess™ PAAM enables industry-leading performance for traditional integrated 5G RAN, as well as emerging O-RAN and vRAN architectures. Fujikura will be making a number of announcements with its ecosystem partners in the near future.

“mmWave is not just important for 5G today but will be a key foundation for beyond 5G and 6G networks. Fujikura has a long-term commitment to technologies in this area. I am excited to announce the availability of our FutureAccess™ product that has the best-in-class performance, power, and TCO for our customers. The industry is facing unprecedented challenges today due to the supply chain issues caused by COVID 19. Fujikura is working closely with its supply chain partners to address these short-term issues. In addition to technology key performance indicators (KPI), Fujikura has uncompromised focus on cost, lead times, quality/reliability, and supply chain continuity/inventory”, said Kenji Nishide, Head of Electronics Technologies R&D Center at Fujikura.

Availability

Fujikura FutureAccess™ will sample to selected customers in April 2022. Evaluation board, integrated with an FPGA board, will be available at the same time.
