Congratulatory Remarks to the FY2024 New Employees (Summary) April 1, 2024 Fujikura Ltd. I would like to congratulate all of you on joining our company. As the representative of all employees in the Fujikura Group, I am delighted to have the opportunity to welcome all of you as our young and spirited employees who will perform the work of the Fujikura Group from this day onward. “Enterprising Spirit” and “Fujikura, a technology leader” Fujikura was started in 1885 as a private enterprise by Zenpachi Fujikura, the founder of the company. Shortly before Zenpachi founded the company, he was engaged in the manufacture of hair accessories as a side job. One day in 1884, Zenpachi saw the dazzling light of an arc lamp on Nihonbashi Street in Tokyo and foresaw the coming of the age of electricity, so he applied his hair accessories manufacturing skills to the production of electric wires. The episode that led to the launch of the electric wire business is truly a testament to the "enterprising spirit" of taking on new challenges. Since then, we have continued to innovate and apply our proprietary technologies, and have been quick to commercialize new products that respond to changes in society. It can be said that the founder's "enterprising spirit" has been passed down through the Fujikura Group for about 140 years. The phrase of “Fujikura, a technology leader” long been passed down within the company, as the company has differentiated itself from competing products by continually refining its unique technologies. Mid-term Management Plan In May last year, our company announced three-year mid-term management plan, the final year of which is fiscal 2025. In this mid-term management plan, we have positioned three core business areas as "information infrastructure," "information storage," and "information terminals," which utilize our company's core technologies and core technologies, in order to realize a highly digitalized society. The first area is the information infrastructure, which is related to the foundation that supports a smart society in which digital technologies such as AI and IoT permeate every corner of life and industry. We will contribute to the construction of the global information and communications infrastructure by providing optical wiring solutions based on our company's innovative fiber cable technology. We are also working on the development of high-speed wireless communication technology based on millimeter wave with an eye toward the future. The second business area is information storage, which is aimed at the data center market for storing data that is growing due to the recent spread and expansion of cloud services and AI generation. Our company's unique electronic component technologies, such as actuators for HDD and cooling devices for CPUs and GPUs, and ultra-high-density optical wiring technologies, such as ultra-multicentric optical cables with up to 6,912 fiber cores, support the design and construction of data centers that handle vast amounts of information. The third "information terminal" uses many of our company's high-definition electronic components, connectors, and wiring and mounting technologies. Starting with PCs, new products and technologies such as tablets, smartphones, AR/VR headsets, and wearable devices such as smartwatches are emerging. We also consider next-generation vehicles such as connected cars to be one of the information terminals. We will continue to contribute to the evolution of innovative information terminals with our company's diverse and unique technologies. In addition, the mid-term plan will promote the creation of the next business as "Beyond 2025". We believe that the realization of a sustainable carbon-neutral society is an excellent opportunity for the creation of new businesses. In this area, our company has several outstanding technologies, including high-temperature superconducting materials, fiber lasers, and ultrafast charging technology. In particular, high-temperature superconducting materials are currently being studied for application to nuclear fusion, and if they are realized, they are expected to be technologies that will fundamentally solve energy and environmental problems. Request to New Employees Who Will Lead the Future The first is to make efforts to improve oneself. As the environment changes drastically, the fields in which you play an active role are not limited to Japan, but are expanding to the world. In order to become a person who can play an active role on the world stage, it is necessary not only to have knowledge and ability of work and language ability, but also to have a high antenna and a wide perspective. I would like to ask you not to neglect your self-improvement efforts at all times, and not to wait for what you are given, but to think and act on your own every day.
