Management of Chemical Substances
Policy and Guidelines
-
**PRTR LAW: A law concerning the reinforcement of improvements in handling and management of the emission rates of specified chemicals into the environment.
Targets and Results
Fujikura and Group companies in Japan have improved their target for reducing the amount of PRTR handled (the unit price of emissions and transfers of major environmentally hazardous substances (per unit of sales) by at least 3% compared to FY2015 in the Environmental Management Action Guidelines Version 5.2. (Improved by 1% or more per year)).
The mainly used substances of antimonous or lead compounds, bis phtalate, (2-ethylhexyl), etc. are used as additives for plastic and rubber materials, and xylene and toluene, etc. are used in such products as ink solvents and gasoline for transport vehicles. In an effort to reduce the release and transfer of these chemicals, we promote changing to lead-free, green materials, and changing to substitute materials for use in manufactured goods.
The amount of class 1 designated chemical substances handled at the workplaces of all Group companies in Japan in fiscal 2018 was 437 tons, a 48.6% reduction compared to fiscal 2015, while the amount transferred was 18.9 tons, down 44.0% from fiscal 2015. The basic unit was 7.58 t / 100 million yen, an improvement of 39.5% compared to fiscal 2015, and the target was achieved. The reduction in the amount handled and transferred resulted mainly by switching out materials containing bis phthalate (Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate) with replacements.
