Health Promotion Measures for Employees

Periodic physical examination, which is used to determine self-health level and disease risk and is the basis of voluntary health promotion, is carried out by adding our own inspection items to statutory inspection items. For additional examination items, we add inspection items aimed at the early detection of lifestyle diseases, and also instruct employees who have many factors with high risk of onset, such as prevention management and individual health awareness. In this manner, we are developing efforts to improve the health consciousness of our people.

Motor Function Testing and Measurement Club

We call this motor function testing and perform it every year to measure the physical strength of employees on the four parameters of grip strength, flexibility, leg strength, and balance. We distribute results charts to employees so they can see what their current physical strength is compared to the nationwide average. We also analyze trends by work location. Determining where a group stands enables us to propose the best next step.

Step-counting Event

By FY2018, we had held the step-counting event 11 times since we first launched it in FY2013. For the event, each person wears a pedometer that is handed out and competes with others in a virtual space walk. In FY2018, we staged the event in Oita and Chiba, the locale of each Group business site, using the theme of “create companions in the Fujikura Group” that we launched in fiscal 2016. Participants complete the walk by walking an average of 8,000 steps a day for 80 days in a row. The event provides new opportunities for communication through competitions between divisions and birthday team competitions.

Development of a Model Workplace Where Elevating Desks are Used to Work While Standing

Monitoring the impact on the body from sitting for long periods while working is an area that is being researched, mainly in the U.S. and Europe. In the Fujikura Group, we have been running a pilot test in the Health Management Promotion Department since fiscal 2015. We are using it as a model office to verify the benefits of standing while working. We are seeing the results from allowing each person to consciously choose whether to stand or sit, depending on the nature of the work being performed. This is enabling people to maintain a good balance as they accomplish their work, and is enabling people to sleep more soundly. In fiscal 2016, we provided support for the installation of elevating desks in each office, mainly for those who wanted them.

Further Promotion of Health Management using the Fujikura Social Health Research Institute Ltd.

The Fujikura Group established Fujikura Social Health Research Institute Ltd. in April 2019 in order to further promote the ability of Fujikura Group employees to maintain their health and increase productivity through health management.
Until now, we have actively implemented innovative health management activities as a pioneer in the world using the enterprising spirit passed down as the traditional culture of the Fujikura Group. Citing example, we have made multifunction scales and blood pressure monitors available to employees to measure progress, visualized health diagnosis and various health data such as vitals, and held various events. Through these activities, we have seen the positive result of improving employee awareness of health maintenance and health improvement, including changes in behaviors due to events and changes in employee mindsets. Going forward, we will share various information and tests on employee health improvement to create a platform that will enable us to further promote health management.
In addition, it will provide health management consulting services to Fujikura Group companies to ensure they become leading companies in health management not only in Japan but around the world as well. In this manner, we will aim to realize the vision of a healthy society advocated in the SDGs.
