Management of Chemical Substances

Principles and Guidelines

In Fujikura and domestic group companies, based on the 5th edition of the Environmental Management Activity Guidelines, among designated chemical substances used in product raw materials and manufacturing processes, designated chemical substances with a handling volume of 1 ton or more specified by the PRTR Law*. We have reported emissions and transfers to the country from the establishment.

  • *PRTR LAW: A law concerning the reinforcement of improvements in handling and management of the emission rates of specified chemicals into the environment.

Goals and Results

Fujikura and domestic group companies in the fifth edition of the Environmental Management Activity Guidelines set the goal of reducing PRTR handling volume (the amount of releases and transfers of major environmental burden substances is reduced by 1% or more per year from the fiscal 2015 level).

Antimony and lead compounds, lead compounds, bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate etc. are used as additives for plastics and rubber materials, xylene, toluene and others are used for ink solvents and gasoline for transport vehicles. As an effort to reduce the amount of chemical substances released and transferred, we are promoting non-lead, ecological and alternative materials for our products.

Fujikura and domestic group companies in Fujikura and domestic Group companies handled 1st classified chemical substances at 569 tons, a reduction of 35.0% compared with the fiscal 2015 level, and the discharge and transfer volume was 27.8 tons, a reduction of 17.5% from FY 2015 levels. Mainly converting materials containing bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate to substitute materials has led to reductions in handling volume and discharge and transfer volume.
