CSV Strategy Aimed at Achieving SDGs

Education on SDGs

Communicate Information Via the Internal Intranet, Engage in Internal Dialog, and Distribute SDG Badges

Internal activities to educate people about SDGs mainly consist of ongoing communication of information via the company’s internal Intranet and engaging in internal dialog.
To communicate information, we use the CSR blog transmitted via the internal Intranet and attach the SDG icons related to the articles we post. We create opportunities to make employees aware of how their daily activities are contributing to the achievement of SDGs.

We have also hosted multiple internal dialogs thus far. For the first session, we invited an external expert and engaged top and middle management in a dialog on their views of CSV and how the Fujikura Group should tackle initiatives in CSV. We also held a workshop for new employees. During the workshop each group selected one SDG and thought about how each employee could contribute to achieving that SDG.

SDG badges were also distributed to directors and executive officers and they are exploring how the organizations they are in charge of can contribute to achieving the 17 goals specified in the SDGs.

Hosting Dialogs on CSV

We positioned 2017 as the inaugural year of CSV in the Fujikura Group, the year in which we began to take another serious look at business activities aimed at solving social challenges based on the concept of CSV. As the first step in initiatives undertaken during the inaugural year of CSV, we invited Professor Takashi Nawa, an expert in CSV from The Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy (ICS) at Hitotsubashi University, and hosted a lecture and dialog on August 31, 2017 to educate officers and other employees on CSV.

Professor Nawa talked about utilizing Japan’s inherent culture and value in aiming to create shared value, and about how to create both social and economic value through business. After the lecture, the roughly 35 participants, who were mainly frontline middle managers, divided into five groups. They engaged in dialog to explore CSV in the Fujikura Group and discussed what kinds of shared value the Fujikura Group should create to prepare for the changes that could occur in the future.
