Fujikura Group CSR Integrated Report 2014
Message from the President

In fiscal 2013, we at the Fujikura Group made a continuous and concerted effort to respond to changes in the environment surrounding the infrastructure industries and to bring a recovery to the electronics business. During the fiscal year we also embarked on reorganization and business structural reform in order to respond to changes in the business environment in a steady manner. Specifically, we reorganized the existing business departments into four in-house companies to quickly respond to customers’ needs even before they become aware of their own needs, while also increasing the entire Group’s business efficiency. In fiscal 2013, we thus implemented a range of measures and began making tangible results. I think it was indeed a meaningful year for us. In fiscal 2014, which is an important year for the attainment of the 2015 Mid-Term Business Plan, we will complete the implementation of a range of measures, including those for the following priority items: (1) bring a successful recovery to the electronics business; (2) accelerate the global development of the infrastructure business; and (3) foster business structure reform across the Group. We will also speed up the launch of new businesses. All members of the Fujikura Group will make an all-out effort to implement the strategies, measures and reforms with great ambition and strong commitment toward the achievement of the Business Plan in fiscal 2015, the final year of the plan.

The Fujikura Group aims to achieve both the creation of a sustainable society and the sustainable growth of the Group as its corporate social responsibility (CSR), and to this end conducts corporate activities that are friendly to people as well as to the global environment based on the Group’s Corporate Philosophy MVCV. In fiscal 2013 we proactively implemented new CSR initiatives in addition to the 25 items listed in the Fujikura Group’s priority CSR measures to be completed by the end of fiscal 2015. The new initiatives implemented in the fiscal year include the following. First, we participated in the United Nations Global Compact in September, thereby linking the Group for the first time with a global CSR-related framework. Second, we held a stakeholder dialogue meeting at the Sakura Plant, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its foundation next year. At the meeting, we received opinions and recommendations from the local government and community representatives about how the plant should be managed as a member of the local community for another 50 years. Third, we conducted health management activities to foster both employees’ health and corporate growth. Specifically in December, we made the Fujikura Group Health Management Declaration and started the activities on a full scale across the Group. We also held a partners’ meeting as part of the CSR supply management activity and worked to obtain third-party verification for the amount of our CO2 emissions.

The Fujikura Group will continue to proactively implement measures in a socially responsible manner backed by the strong commitment of its employees, aiming to become a corporate group that is appreciated by customers and highly evaluated by society. On behalf of our Group, I would like to ask for your understanding and continued support.
