This Fujikura Group CSR Integrated Report 2014 provides more substantial information than our previous annual CSR reports.
We have created this integrated report based on the seven core subjects and classification method of the ISO 26000 international standard on social responsibility as in the previous year, while also working to enhance the content of the report as described below.
-
1.In December 2013, the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) published the International Integrated Reporting Framework, which requires companies to provide both nonfinancial information, such as CSR-related data, and also financial information in a more substantial manner. To meet this requirement and the needs of shareholders and investors, we decided to include more information in our annual CSR reports, and have changed the report's title from "CSR Report" to "CSR Integrated Report."
-
2.In May 2013, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) published the fourth version of its Sustainability Reporting Guidelines (G4) as the global standards for CSR reports, and the revised guidelines require companies to shift their focus from the quantity to quality of reporting. In response, the Fujikura Group began making preparations for the full introduction of the G4 in 2016. We are also continuing to comply with the conventional G3.1 to maintain both the quantity and quality of our CSR reporting at a satisfactory level.
-
3.We are now making examinations to obtain independent third-party certification for our CSR integrated report in fiscal 2015. The CSR Integrated Report 2014 was reviewed by an evaluation organization and we have included the review report made by the organization in the Report.
-
4.We introduce Fujikura's announcement of support for the United Nations Global Compact (made on September 3, 2013) at the end of the president's message and also describe the initiatives we have been implementing for the ten principles of the Global Compact in the Integrated Report.
-
5.In the first feature article, we introduce the health management system fostered across the Group and show the whole picture of the Fujikura Group's health management activities. Also we report about the second stakeholder dialogue in the second feature article. We are committed to identifying what society wants and expects us to do through direct dialogues with our stakeholders, and we regard their requests and expectations as new CSR tasks for us.
-
6.On March 10, the Fujikura Group CSR Committee (Management Committee) decided on and approved the Fujikura Group's basic policies on social contributions. In line with the policies, we describe the number of employees who participated in the Group's social contribution activities and the monetary value of the activities (as reference) for the first time in the report, as an initiative to provide a new type of information to stakeholders.
In addition, in order to help stakeholders deepen their understanding of our CSR activities, we describe a range of new initiatives online (in the HTML format), as shown below.

Process to deciding on the Editorial Policy
The Fujikura Group has been disclosing information to stakeholders on various occasions and through a range of media and tools. Following the publication of the first version of the International Integrated Reporting Framework as the guidelines on a new information disclosure method called "integrated reporting," we have decided to create a report in line with this Framework. Accordingly, in the CSR Integrated Report we disclose, in an easily understood manner, both financial information and nonfinancial information, including the information about the activities we are conducting to make the creation of a sustainable society compatible with the achievement of sustainable growth as a company. In line with the Integrated Reporting Framework, the Fujikura Group will continue to clearly report its measures and perspectives for continuous corporate development, as well as the activities it is conducting toward the creation of a sustainable society.
Response to the Third-Party Opinion
- It is important for the Group to maintain and increase the CSR awareness of individual employees by continuously providing them with education and enlightenment about global compliance and codes of conduct.
-
In addition to regular employee education on compliance and codes of conduct, we conducted enlightenment activities (a lecture by the president, briefing on CSR, partner meetings, and others) and biannual in-house awareness raising campaigns to inform every employee of the United Nations Global Compact's ten principles in the four areas, following Fujikura's participation in the global initiative in September 2013. We also constantly post the list of the Fujikura Group's policies and regulations corresponding to the ten principles of the Global Compact on the intranet to clarify how these principles are related to the Group's regulations and norms. Furthermore, we post the global norms, such as the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, and ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy continuously on the intranet, in order to show employees engaged in global business operations the norms that they should obey and help them check whether they are behaving in line with the global principles, guidelines and norms.
- It is necessary for the Group as a global business entity to continue expanding its scope of information disclosure to introduce more data and measures regarding its overseas activities.
-
As a new initiative, we collected from 48 Fujikura Group companies (90% of the total number of Group employees) data about the number of participants and hours spent in the activities they conducted to contribute to society and local communities, to protect the global environment, and to ensure occupational health and safety for more comfortable workplaces. We then compiled the quantitative data thus collected as the Group and disclosed them in the "Promotion of CSR Activities" section of this report in an intelligible manner.
- The Group is expected to link its global business operations with strategic CSR measures.
-
In the "Global Fujikura Group" section of this report, we introduce (1) 94 consolidated subsidiaries by region, country, industry; (2) number of employees by business segment; (3) number of male and female employees by region for 48 major Group companies across the world; and (4) overseas sales and the composition of employees in Japan and abroad to make the report more substantial. Further, in the "Introduction of our businesses" section, we provide more information in an easier- to understand manner. Also in the "The Fujikura Group's Management Approach" section, we introduce for the first time our "overseas quality-manufacturing training school" as an example of linking global business operations with strategic CSR measures.
