Congratulatory message to new Fujikura employee for 2026 (summary)
Fujikura Ltd. (Director, President and CEO: Naoki Okada) held its induction ceremony today. The following is a summary of the congratulatory speech given by Naoki Okada, Director, President and CEO, to the new Fujikura employee.
Congratulations on joining the company.
On behalf of the Fujikura Group, I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to all of you young and motivated people who will be responsible for the future of the Fujikura Group.
"Enterprising spirit" and "Fujikura, a Technology Leader"
Fujikura started in 1885 as a sole proprietorship by its founder, Zenpachi Fujikura, and this year marks the 141st anniversary of its founding. Zenpachi foresaw the coming of the age of electricity, and based on the manufacturing technology of women’s hairbands, which was his family business, he took on the challenge of launching the electric wire business with an “enterprising spirit.” This spirit of challenge has been passed down and remains part of Fujikura’s DNA today. As “Fujikura, a Technology Leader,” we have continued to refine our unique technologies and have contributed to customer value creation and society through “Tsunagu” (Connecting) Technolog™ in a wide range of fields, including energy, information and communications, electronics, and automotive electrical systems.
Around the world, multiple technological innovations continue to progress simultaneously. In particular, the evolution of cutting-edge technologies such as generative AI is significantly transforming society and industry and is expected to further accelerate these changes. Wherever such social transformation and technological advancement occur, there are always opportunities to leverage the outstanding technologies of the Fujikura Group. Building on our DNA of “enterprising spirit” and “Fujikura, a Technology Leader,” realizing customer value creation and contributing to society through “Tsunagu” (Connecting) Technology™ for the future is the purpose and reason for existence of the Fujikura Group.
Start of the Mid-Term Management Plan 2028
Fiscal year 2026, which begins today, marks the start of a new three-year Medium-Term Management Plan 2028. We believe that this plan represents a major turning point for Fujikura.
With the remarkable advancement of generative AI, data centers that form its foundation require enormous amounts of electricity, and how to generate and deliver this energy has become a significant social challenge. We believe that advancing a highly digitalized society accelerated by generative AI, while ultimately supplying the energy that supports it without emitting CO2, is the direction Fujikura should pursue in the near future.
Under the previous Medium-Term Management Plan 2025, we identified three core business domains in which Fujikura’s technologies can contribute to the advancement of a highly digitalized society: information infrastructure, information storage, and information terminals. These domains will continue to be important business areas under the Medium-Term Management Plan 2028. In particular, with the evolution and increasing adoption of generative AI, significant growth is expected in the areas of information infrastructure and information storage.
The first area, “information infrastructure,” targets communication networks that support the foundation of an advanced digital society, which is being accelerated by the expansion of data centers. In particular, in recent years, strengthening information infrastructure through Data Center Interconnect (DCI), which connects data centers to one another, has become increasingly important. By providing optical wiring solutions that utilize innovative optical fiber and cable technologies, Fujikura will continue to support the construction of the world’s information and communications infrastructure.
The second area, “information storage,” targets the data center market, which stores massive volumes of data as cloud services and generative AI continue to expand. In recent years, large quantities of optical fiber have been used in data centers, and Fujikura provides high-density optical wiring technologies, including ultra-high-fiber-count optical cables accommodating up to 13,824 fibers. In addition, through our unique electronic component technologies—such as actuators for hard disk drives and devices for cooling CPUs and GPUs—we will continue to contribute to the development of data centers.
The third area, “information terminals,” supports the increasing sophistication of a wide range of devices used to process vast amounts of data. In addition to PCs and smartphones, this area includes wearable devices such as AR/VR headsets and smartwatches, as well as next-generation vehicles such as connected cars. In recent years, fields such as Physical AI and AI-driven robotics have also attracted growing attention. Through our diverse and unique technologies, including high-precision electronic components, connectors, and wiring and mounting technologies, Fujikura will continue to play a role in supporting the evolution of these innovative information terminals.
In addition, in order to achieve both growing energy demand and the realization of a carbon-neutral society, Fujikura will contribute to the practical application of nuclear fusion power generation, which is expected to be a next-generation energy source. There are two promising approaches to nuclear fusion power generation: the magnetic confinement method and the laser-driven method. Fujikura possesses technologies that can contribute to both approaches through its superconducting wire technologies and fiber laser technologies. Furthermore, by leveraging these technologies, we will pursue the creation of new businesses in areas such as mobility, semiconductors, and advanced materials.
As outlined above, through the Medium-Term Management Plan 2028, we aim to capture major changes in society, further expand Fujikura’s growth, and create new businesses with a medium- to long-term perspective. To achieve these goals, the new and young talent gathered here today is indispensable. Let us work together to make Fujikura an even more outstanding and inspiring company.
Requests to new Fujikura employee
Therefore, I have two requests for our new Fujikura employee.
The first is to “never neglect self-improvement.” To be active on the global stage, it is essential to continuously hone your knowledge and skills. Do not wait for things to be handed to you; think for yourself, take initiative, and grow as a professional.
The second is to “believe in your own potential and take on challenges.” A proactive attitude, without fear of failure, is what creates new value. We will continue to provide an environment in which everyone can work comfortably, so please pursue your ambitions with high aspirations and embrace challenges.
