The world's highest-multi Fiber Optic Cable "13824-fiber SWRTM/WTCTM wins the "Awards for Excellence" at 2025 Nikkei Excellent Products and Services Awards.
Fujikura Ltd. (Director, President and CEO: Okada Naoki)'s world's highest ultra-multi Fiber Optic Cable, "13824-fiber SWRTM/ WTCTM" has won the Awards for Excellence at 2025 Nikkei Excellent Products and Services Awards, sponsored by Nikkei Inc.
This is the first time that a Fujikura product has received "Awards for Excellence" at the 2025 Nikkei Excellent Products and Services Awards.
The "13824-fiber SWRTM/ WTCTM" is a product designed for hyperscale data center. It features a non-metallic optical fiber cable that inplements 12-fiber Intermittently bonded ribbon fibers (Spider Web RibbonTM: SWRTM) that allows for multi-fiber mass fusion splicing, mounted on Fujikura's proprietary thin-diameter, high-density Fiber Optic Cable (Wrapping Tube CableTM: WTCTM).
When constructing data center, there are restrictions on the number and inner diameter of buried ducts laying Fiber Optic Cable underground, so there is a demand for Fiber Optic Cable with thinner diameters.
The highest number of fibers in the conventional fiber optic cable WTCTM was equipped with 6912-fiber SWRTM, but the "13824-fiber SWRTM/WTCTM' was praised for achieving twice the number of fibers compared to the conventional cable while keeping the outer diameter to less than 40 mm.
The Nikkei Excellent Products and Services Awards is an annual award presented by Nikkei Inc. to recognize outstanding new products and services. This year marks the 44th awards. Nikkei Inc. independently selects products and services, and a judging committee comprehensively evaluates them based on six criteria: technological development potential, cost-effectiveness, contribution to business performance, growth potential, uniqueness, and impact on industry and society, to determine the winners of each award. In fiscal 2025, a total of 36 products and services were selected, including 15 awards for excellence.

An optical fiber ribbon developed using Fujikura’s proprietary technology. It features a structure in which single optical fiber are bonded intermittently, providing excellent flexibility. It allows for high-density implementation within fiber optic cables, contributing to thinner and higher-density fiber optic cables.
*2 WTCTM (Wrapping Tube CableTM)
Thin-diameter, high-density fiber optic cable developed by Fujikura using proprietary technology that implements SWRTM. It is a simple-structured fiber optic cable in which the optical fiber ribbons are covered with a tape wrapping. Compared to conventional fiber optic cables such as the slot structure mainly used domestically or the loose tube structure common overseas, it has a thinner and higher-density design, enabling the use of existing ducts and significantly shortening construction periods.
