Telecommunication System Business units Wins 2025 Porter Prize
- High value-added strategy based on unique products and manufacturing technologies that sets the company apart from price competition -

Fujikura Ltd. (Director, President and CEO: Naoki Okada)'s Telecommunication System Business units has been awarded the Porter Prize for the first time, which recognizes Japanese companies and business that are implementing unique and outstanding strategy.

The reason for the award states, "strong point / feature of the company's strategy is the creation and specialization of high-value-added areas based on its unique product and manufacturing technologies. Taking advantage of the saturation of the optical fiber market in Japan, the company completely withdrew from the production and sales of fiber optic cables with conventional structures (slot type, loose tube type). It specializes in fiber optic cable using its own self-developed intermittently fixed ribbon fiber, and has shifted its target market from Japan to overseas. This new structure is ultra-high-fiber, small-diameter, high-density, and lightweight, and not only can it significantly reduce manufacturing costs compared to conventional products, but it can also reduce installation costs for customer. The company produces a wide range of products, including optical fiber, optical parts and components, fusion splicers, and optical application products. The company provides all related products, which contribute to realizing strong point / feature of the new fiber optic cable structure and ensuring its superiority. Furthermore, in sales, the company appeals to customer to reduce their total costs and conducts sales activities through its directly managed sales companies to ensure that customers receive a price that reflects the value that this creates. sales companies are able to provide cabling solutions by providing not only cables but also parts, machinery, and advice and services for installation work. The company has successfully penetrated the US hyperscale data center market and is also making inroads in Europe, primarily among major telecommunications carriers and the railway market.
We have distinguished ourselves from the price competition with optical fiber and cable manufacturers, whose strength lies in low prices, and have achieved higher profitability than the industry."

The Porter Prize, hosted by the International Corporate Strategy Program of the Graduate School of Business Administration at Hitotsubashi University, was established in July 2001 with the aim of improving the competitiveness of Japanese companies, and this year marks its 25th anniversary.
The award is given to companies that have achieved and maintained high profitability in their industry by implementing unique strategy based on innovation in products, processes, and management skills. The award is named after Professor Emeritus Michael E. Porter of Harvard University.

Following this award, Fujikura Director, President and CEO Naoki Okada will attend the Porter Prize Competitiveness Conference 2025 to be held at Hitotsubashi Auditorium on December 2, 2025, to explain the appeal of the company's award-winning competitive strategy.
