press release
The world's first sale of "13,824-fiber SWRTM /WTCTM" begins
~ Commercial rollout of related termination components also starts for hyperscale data center customers ~
Fujikura Ltd. (President and CEO: Naoki Okada) has added the world’s highest-capacity ultra-high fiber count fiber optic cable, the “13,824-fiber SWRTM *1 /WTCTM *2 ” to its product lineup for hyperscale data centers and has commenced sales.
This product, along with related termination components, has been delivered to overseas hyperscale data center, where installation work has already been completed.
The new product, "13,824-fiber SWRTM /WTCTM, " is a non-metallic fiber optic cable that implements the 12-fiber intermittently bonded optical fiber ribbon (Spider Web RibbonTM: SWRTM, which enables mass fusion splicing of multiple fibers, into our proprietary thin-diameter, high-density fiber optic cable (Wrapping Tube CableTM: WTCTM).
When constructing data centers, laying fiber optic cables underground is subject to limitations on the number and inner diameter of buried ducts, creating a demand for thinner fiber optic cables.
While the conventional WTCTM cable with 6,912-fiber SWRTM was the highest fiber count to date, the new product achieves twice the number of fibers compared to the previous model while keeping the outer diameter under 40 mm.
In conjunction with the launch of the "13,824-fiber SWRTM /WTCTM, we have also developed a dedicated fiber optic cable breakout kit.
This breakout kit employs the Spider Web Tube™ (SWT ™)*3, which applies SWR TM technology. It features easy unitization of multiple SWRTM ribbons, significantly reducing fusion splicing processing time at the splice frame.
The splice frame is equipped with a multi-play optical fiber fusion splicing function that allows the internal tray to be removed for splicing work. Unlike conventional splice frames that do not allow tray removal, where fusion splicing and breakout of ultra-high fiber count fiber optic cables must be performed by a single operator, our splice frame’s multi-play fusion splicing function enables multiple operators to perform splicing simultaneously.
The splice frame also incorporates SWT™, allowing compact storage of the fiber slack required when multiple operators work together. This achieves industry-leading ultra-high-density, space-saving cabling while shortening optical fiber installation time and supporting faster data center construction.
Currently, due to the rapid proliferation and expansion of cloud services and generative AI, communication traffic is increasing at an accelerated pace.
Fujikura contributes to the construction of advanced communication networks by supplying thin-diameter, high-density SWRTM /WTCTM cables that efficiently utilize existing infrastructure networks. At the same time, we will continue to contribute to the realization of a more advanced information society through the development of high-quality and innovative technologies and products.

*SWRTM (Spider Web RibbonTM), WTCTM (Wrapping Tube CableTM) and SWTTM (Spider Web TubeTM) are registered trademarks of Fujikura.
*1 SWRTM (Spider Web Ribbon TM)
An optical fiber ribbon developed using Fujikura’s proprietary technology. It features a structure in which single-fiber optical fibers are bonded intermittently, providing excellent flexibility. This allows for high-density implementation within fiber optic cables, contributing to thinner and higher-density fiber optic cables.
*2 WTCTM (Wrapping Tube CableTM)
The name of a thin-diameter, high-density fiber optic cable developed by Fujikura using proprietary technology that implements SWRTM. It is a simple-structured fiber optic cable in which the optical fiber ribbons are covered with a tape wrapping. Compared to conventional fiber optic cables such as the slot structure mainly used domestically or the loose tube structure common overseas, it has a thinner and higher-density design, enabling the use of existing ducts and significantly shortening construction periods.
*3 Spider Web Tube™ (SWT™)
A tube with an intermittently bonded SWRTM structure, characterized by excellent flexibility and elasticity. This product contributes to achieving industry-leading ultra-high-density, space-saving cabling inside splice frames.
