press release
sales of "Non-metallic 2000/3000 core SWR ® /WTC ® Lineup (名)" begins
Fujikura Ltd. (Director, President and CEO: Okada Naoki) has added new products, 2000-fiber and 3000-fiber SWR ® *1/WTC ® *2, to Lineup (名) of non-metallic Optcal Fiber cables for the domestic market and has begun sales.
The new product, "Non-metallic 2000-core and 3000-core SWR ® /WTC ®" is a non-metallic Optcal Fiber cable that incorporates an 8-core Optcal Fiber ribbon SWR ®, which allows for multi-core mass fusion splicing, onto our proprietary WTC ® technology.
In Japan, when laying Optcal Fiber cables underground, restrictions on the inner diameter of buried conduits mean that the outer diameter of Optcal Fiber cable must be kept to 24 mm or less.
Conventional SWR ® /WTC ® cables with a coating diameter of 250μm had a maximum of 2000 cores due to restrictions on the cable outer diameter, but SWR ® /WTC ® cables with a coating diameter of 200μm have a 3000-core type outer diameter of 23mm, making it possible laying in underground conduits. In addition, the outer diameter of the 2000-core type has been reduced to 20mm, achieving even smaller diameters and higher density.
Furthermore, its non-metallic structure eliminates the need for measures against electromagnetic induction, which is effective in simplifying installation, and its flame-retardant sheath coating means strong point / feature can be laying both inside and outside a building.
In addition, the Optcal Fiber arrangement pitch of the SWR® with a coating diameter of 200 μm is set to 250 μm, making it possible to fusion splice with general-purpose Optcal Fiber ribbons.
Currently, communication traffic is increasing at an accelerating rate due to the rapid spread and expansion of cloud services and AI generation. Fujikura will contribute to the construction of advanced communication networks by supplying thin-diameter, high-density SWR® / WTC® that can efficiently utilize existing infrastructure networks, and will continue to contribute to the realization of an even more advanced information society through the development of high-quality, innovative technologies and products.

*1 SWR ® (Spider Web Ribbon ®)
Optcal Fiber ribbon developed using Fujikura's proprietary technology. It is made by intermittently bonding Optcal Fiber and is strong point / feature by its flexibility. It enables high-density mounting within Optcal Fiber cables, contributing to the creation of thinner, higher-density Optcal Fiber cables.
*2 WTC ® (Wrapping Tube Cable ®)
The name of a small-diameter, high-density Optcal Fiber cable that incorporates SWR® and was developed using Fujikura's proprietary technology. Optcal Fiber cable with a simple structure in which an Optcal Fiber fiber ribbon is covered with a pressure-wrapped tape. Since it has a smaller diameter and higher density structure than conventional Optcal Fiber cables, such as the slot structure that is mainly used in Japan and the loose tube structure that is common overseas, it can use existing conduits and significantly shorten construction time.
