BELS certificate certifying 5-star rating and 41% reduction in energy consumption
"BELS" is a building energy conservation performance labeling system based on the "Evaluation guideline for Labeling the Energy Conservation Performance of Non-Residential Buildings" established by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. It is a public system that evaluates and certifies the energy conservation performance of buildings on a five-level scale.
The new building, "LEGARE," has improved the basic energy-saving performance of the building by adopting exterior walls that take insulation into consideration and glass with excellent insulating and heat-blocking properties.
In addition, by incorporating various technologies to improve energy-saving performance, such as highly efficient air conditioning equipment and lighting fixtures, primary energy consumption *3 was reduced by 41% at the design stage, which led to the building receiving the highest 5-star rating under BELS.
150 solar panels have been installed on the roof to supplement the electricity required for common areas within the facility, thereby helping to reduce CO2 emissions.

- About solar power generation equipment -
Overview |
150 solar panels, system output 50kW |
Location of installation |
Rooftop of "LEGARE" in Fukagawa Gatharia, 1-5-9 Kiba, Koto-ku, Tokyo |
Purpose of introduction |
To reduce CO2 emissions by supplying generated electricity to common areas within the facility |
The solar power generation equipment in the new building, "LEGARE," was installed with partial financial support from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's "Local Production and Consumption Renewable Energy Project (Installation within Tokyo)."
The amount of electricity generated by LEGARE's solar power generation equipment is displayed in real time on monitor screens installed in the facility's corridors, allowing facility users to check the power generation status.
Furthermore, as an energy-saving measure, LEGARE has introduced a Building Energy Management System (BEMS), which measures the amount of electricity used within the building and manages the amount of energy used by air conditioning, lighting equipment, etc.
Through thorough energy measurement and collection of energy data, we are improving the energy efficiency of our buildings while implementing and utilizing energy-saving technologies.
In 2016, we establishment the "Fujikura Group Long-Term Environmental Vision 2050," setting out four challenges toward carbon neutrality, including "reducing CO2 emissions from our factories to zero by 2050," and setting out a roadmap for achieving these goals.
Fukagawa Gatharia is an urban revitalization space that we redeveloped with the concept of "establishing a new identity for the Fukagawa-Kiba area." By utilizing highly energy-efficient buildings and facilities, as well as renewable and created energy, we will contribute to the realization of a carbon-free society. We will continue to work to create a neighborhood that will continue to be loved and familiar to everyone, coexisting with the surrounding downtown environment.
*1 Fukagawa Gatharia
This complex opened in 2003 after redeveloping the former site of Fujikura's Fukagawa factory. It is an integrated facility with office buildings, a large supermarket, a movie theater, a restaurant area, a fitness club, and more, with a view to inheriting the culture and traditions of the downtown area and creating a new era. Gatharia is a combination of GATHER (gathering) + AREA (area) + IA (indicating countries and regions).
It is a coined word made up of the Latin suffix and describes an area where people and things gather.
*2 LEGARE
It means "to connect, to tie" in Italian.
This name plays on our core technology, "Tsunagu" Technology™."
*3 Primary energy consumption
This is the value converted into heat value of the energy consumed by the equipment used in a building, and is expressed as the total including heating and cooling, ventilation, lighting, hot water supply, etc.
