Congratulatory message to new Fujikura employee for 2024 (summary)

April 1, 2024
Fujikura Ltd.

Congratulations on joining the company.
On behalf of Fujikura Group, I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to all of you young and energetic people who will be responsible for Fujikura Group in the future.

"Enterprising spirit" and "Fujikura, a Technology Leader"
Fujikura started in 1885 as a sole proprietorship by its founder, Zenpachi Fujikura. Shortly before Zenpachi was founded, he was working as a hand-manufacturing for women's hair bands called "Nekake" at the time. One day in 1884, Zenpachi saw the dazzling lightning of arc lights unveiled on Tokyo's Japan Bridge Street, foresaw the arrival of the era of electricity, and used the technology of hair band manufacturing to manufacturing electric wires. I feel that the episode leading up to the launch of this electric wire business is precisely due to the "enterprising spirit" of trying new things. Since then, Fujikura has been one of the first to innovate or apply its own technology to business new products that respond to societal change. It can be said that the founder's "enterprising spirit" has been passed down in Fujikura Group for about 140 years. In addition, due to the history of differentiating ourselves from competing products by continuing to refine our unique technology, the word "Fujikura, a Technology Leader" has been passed down for a long time within the company.

Regarding Mid-Term Plan
Last May, Fujikura announced a three-year Mid-Term Plan with fiscal year 2025 as the final year. In this Mid-Term Plan, we have positioned three core business areas—"information infrastructure," "information storage," and "information terminals"—where we can leverage Fujikura foundational and core technologies to realize a highly digitized society. The first, "information infrastructure," is an area related to the foundation that supports a smart society in which digital technologies such as AI and IoT permeate every aspect of life and industry. We will contribute to the construction of global information and communication infrastructure with optical wiring solutions based on Fujikura innovative Optical Fiber and cable technology. We are also working on the development of high-speed wireless communication technology using millimeter waves with a view to the future. The second, "information storage," is a business area targeting data center market for storing data that is increasing due to the recent spread and expansion of cloud services and generative AI. We will support the design and construction of data centers that handle vast amounts of information with Fujikura unique electronic component technologies such as Actuator for hard disk drives and cooling devices for CPUs/GPUs, as well as ultra-high-density optical wiring technologies such as ultra-multi-core Optical Fiber cables that implement up to 6, 12-fiber, or data center. In the third area, "information terminals," we make extensive use of Fujikura proprietary high-precision electronic components, connectors, and wiring and mounting technologies. This "information terminal" area is constantly evolving, encompassing PCs, tablets, smartphones, AR/VR headsets, smartwatches, and other wearable devices. Furthermore, we consider next-generation vehicles such as connected cars to be a type of information terminal. We intend to continue contributing to the evolution of innovative information terminals with Fujikura diverse and unique technologies.

In addition, this mid-term plan also sows the seeds for the creation of the next business beyond 2025, that is, "Beyond 2025." We believe that the realization of a sustainable carbon-neutral society is a great opportunity to create new business. In this field, too, our company has several excellent technologies, and we are working on "high-temperature superconducting materials," "fiber lasers," and "ultrafast charging technology." In particular, "high-temperature superconducting materials" are currently being considered for application to nuclear fusion, and if realized, it is expected to be a technology that will fundamentally solve energy and environmental problems.

Requests to new Fujikura employee
The first is to "strive to improve yourself." As the environment changes dramatically, the field in which you will be active is expanding beyond Japan to the world. To become human resource who can be active on the world stage, you need not only work knowledge and skills and language skills, but also a high level of awareness and a broad perspective. I would like you to constantly work on improving yourself, and not wait for things to be given to you, but to think and act on your own every day. By accumulating these experiences, you will acquire the awareness and ability of a professional. The second is to "believe in your own infinite potential and take on challenges." Believe in your own potential, and try your best to tackle anything with the spirit of "I'll do it myself/I'll try it." Fujikura Group will make every effort to provide an environment in which you can work and be active. I would like you to respond to this with high aspirations and a spirit of challenge.
