Congratulatory message to new Fujikura employee for 2024 (summary)

April 1, 2024
Fujikura Ltd.

Congratulations on joining the company.
On behalf of Fujikura Group, I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to all of you young and energetic people who will be responsible for Fujikura Group in the future.

"Enterprising spirit" and "Fujikura's technology"
Our company was established in 1885 as a private company by our founder, Zenpachi Fujikura. Shortly before the company was founded, Zenpachi began manufacturing women's headbands, known at the time as "nekake," as a side job. One day in 1884, Zenpachi saw the dazzling light of an arc lamp on display on Nihonbashi Street in Tokyo. He foresaw the coming of the age of electricity and applied his headband manufacturing technology to manufacturing electric wires. We believe that the story of how we launched our electric wire business was due to our "enterprising spirit" to take on new challenges. Since then, we have continued to innovate and apply our unique technologies, and have been the first to business new products that respond to social changes. It can be said that the "enterprising spirit" of our founder has been passed down within Fujikura Group for about 140 years. In addition, because of our history of differentiating our products from those of our competitors by continuing to hone our unique technologies, the phrase "Fujikura of Technology" has long been passed down within the company.

About the Medium-Term Management Plan
In May of last year, we announced our three-year medium-term management plan, which will end in fiscal 2025. In this medium-term management plan, we have positioned our three core business areas, "information infrastructure," "information storage," and "information terminals," in which we can utilize our fundamental and core technologies to realize an advanced digital society. The first, "information infrastructure," is an area related to the foundation that supports a smart society in which digital technologies such as AI and IoT have permeated every corner of life and industry, and we will contribute to the construction of global information and communications infrastructure with optical wiring solutions based on our innovative Optcal Fiber and cable technologies. We are also working on developing high-speed wireless communication technology using millimeter waves with an eye to the future. The second, "information storage," is a business area targeting the data center market for storing data, which has been increasing due to the spread and expansion of cloud services and artificial intelligence in recent years. We will support the design and construction of data center that handle huge amounts of Optcal Fiber Actuator hard disk drives and cooling devices for CPUs/GPUs, and ultra-high-density optical wiring technologies, such as ultra-multi-core optical cables with up to 6,912 optical fibers. The third category, "information terminals," makes extensive use of our company's high-precision electronic components, connectors, wiring, and mounting technologies. This category of "information terminals" is a field in which new products and technologies are constantly being created, starting with PCs, tablets, smartphones, AR/VR headsets, and wearable devices such as smartwatches. Furthermore, we consider next-generation vehicles, such as connected cars, to be a type of information terminal. We would like to continue contributing to the evolution of innovative information terminals with our diverse and unique technologies.

In addition, this mid-term plan also sows the seeds for the creation of the next business beyond 2025, that is, "Beyond 2025." We believe that the realization of a sustainable carbon-neutral society is a great opportunity to create new business. In this field, too, our company has several excellent technologies, and we are working on "high-temperature superconducting materials," "fiber lasers," and "ultrafast charging technology." In particular, "high-temperature superconducting materials" are currently being considered for application to nuclear fusion, and if realized, it is expected to be a technology that will fundamentally solve energy and environmental problems.

Requests to new Fujikura employee
The first is to "strive to improve yourself." As the environment changes dramatically, the field in which you will be active is expanding beyond Japan to the world. To become human resource who can be active on the world stage, you need not only work knowledge and skills and language skills, but also a high level of awareness and a broad perspective. I would like you to constantly work on improving yourself, and not wait for things to be given to you, but to think and act on your own every day. By accumulating these experiences, you will acquire the awareness and ability of a professional. The second is to "believe in your own infinite potential and take on challenges."
