Exhibiting mmWave products at MWC Barcelona 2024 - First live demonstration of high-power 28 GHz Phased Array Antenna Module and ultra-low latency video transmission using 60GHz mmWave wireless communication module -
February 1, 2024
Fujikura Ltd.
Fujikura Ltd. (Director, President and CEO: Okada Naoki) will exhibit its millimeter wave related products at MWC (Mobile World Congress) Barcelona 2024, the largest exhibition in the mobile industry to be held in Spain.
At this exhibition, we will be conducting the first live demonstration of the high-power Type-C version of the latest 28 GHz Phased Array Antenna Module (PAAM) "FutureAccess™" *1 for 5G base stations announced in October 2023, as well as a live demonstration of the 60 GHz band millimeter wave wireless communication module *2. The live demonstration will be held at booth 6F1 in Hall 6 at the MWC Barcelona 2024 venue, which will be held from February 26 to February 29, 2024. Please stop by our booth if you are at the venue.

28 GHz Phased Array Antenna Module (PAAM) "FutureAccess™" High-power Type-C
The newly developed 28GHz band PAAM high-output Type-C "FutureAccess™" retains the existing strong point / feature such as small size, no calibration required, and tiling capability, but by improving the design of the high-frequency integrated circuit it is equipped with, it has approximately doubled the antenna output, expanding the communication area and improving the quality of communication calls, providing a more stable connection environment.
At this exhibition, we will be conducting our first live demonstration using a benchtop Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR) provided by Rohde & Schwarz *3.
CATR is a device that can create a far-field in a compact environment, and at our booth, you can see the characteristics of the PAAM high-power Type-C, which can communicate with moving media using strong radio waves thanks to the high positioning accuracy of beamforming.

60GHz band millimeter wave wireless communication module
We have been conducting research and development into millimeter wave wireless communication for over 10 years. Currently, business companies around the world are adopting millimeter waves for their 5G networks, which is expected to lead to ultra-high speed communications with low latency.
Furukawa Electric will continue to advance development toward commercialization in order to realize even higher speed, larger capacity communications both domestically and internationally.
*1 28 GHz Phased Array Antenna Module (PAAM) "FutureAccess™"
A module that integrates array antennas, beamforming ICs, frequency conversion ICs, bandpass filters, and combiners. This is the industry's highest performance module for indoor and outdoor applications such as fixed wireless access connecting business carriers and subscribers' homes, high-speed wireless access for mobile terminals, and relay circuits connecting telecommunications business' backbone networks and base stations.
*2 60GHz band millimeter wave wireless communication module
A wireless communication module that uses millimeter waves in the 60GHz frequency band. The 60GHz band does not require a radio station license and can be used with a simple system configuration, so there are high expectations for the development of communication and industrial equipment that uses this frequency band. Our modules are characterized by their world-leading performance, including automatic beamforming, throughput of over 1Gbps at a distance of 500m, and low latency on the order of milliseconds, and by the fact that they are shipped with a certification of technical standards conformity (a certification that mobile phones, wireless LAN devices, etc. conformity to the technical standards of the Radio strong point / feature) from a certification body.
*3 Rohde & Schwarz (Hall 5, Booth 5A80)
Headquartered in Munich, Germany, the company's businesses include electronic measurement, including wireless communications/RF test and measurement, aerospace and critical business.
*4 Extrixa Corporation
A company based in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture that develops, manufactures, and sales camera, imaging equipment, and communication equipment.
*5 intoPIX (Hall 7, Booth 7G51)
A Belgium-based developer of image compression/processing and transmission solutions.
*6 JPEG XS: An international standard for image compression technology (ISO/IEC 21122) standardized by the JPEG committee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
