New Optcal Fiber factory to be built within Sakura business- SWRⓇ production volume to increase by 30% -
October 12, 2022
Fujikura Ltd.
Fujikura Ltd. (Director, President and CEO Naoki Okada) is constructing an Optcal Fiber-related production factory. This is expected to increase production of 12-fiber intermittently bonded Optcal Fiber (SWR Ⓡ*1: Spider Web Ribbon Ⓡ) by approximately 30%.
The new factory will be built at Sakura business (Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture), which is currently the domestic production base for Optcal Fiber. The factory area is approximately 3,000 m2. The factory will produce our unique 12-core SWR®, which will be mounted on Wrapping Tube Cable (WTC) (WTC®).
The new factory is scheduled to begin operations in 2025. Once operational, SWRⓇ production volume is expected to increase by about 30%.
The new factory will incorporate DX (Digital Transformation) and GX (Green Transformation) to promote manpower and energy savings while also improving production efficiency.
Fujikura will continue to work to contribute to the construction of advanced information infrastructure, which is in growing demand worldwide.

[Terminology explanation]
*1 Spider Web Ribbon® (SWR®) is our proprietary ribbon fiber in which multiple Optcal Fiber cores are bonded at intervals (intermittently) along the length. Its excellent flexibility allows for high-density packaging within the cable, contributing to smaller diameters and higher density.
*2 Wrapping Tube Cable® (WTC®) is the name of a small-diameter, high-density Optcal Fiber ribbon cable that uses SWR®. It enables a significant reduction in construction time compared to conventional Optcal Fiber cables.
