Sony Begins Offering Evaluation Samples of "FutureAccess™," a 28GHz 5G Millimeter-Wave Phased Array Antenna Module That Achieves the Highest Level of Performance

February 25, 2022
Fujikura Ltd.

Fujikura Ltd. (Director, President and CEO Masahiko Ito) has begun offering evaluation samples of "FutureAccess™," a 28 GHz millimeter-wave phased array antenna module (PAAM) for 5G base stations.

Currently, business around the world are adopting mmWave for their 5G networks (both Mobile Wireless Access (MWA) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA)). The US market in particular is seeing mmWave deployment, with top operators expanding their mmWave networks and use cases (outdoor, indoor, repeater/relay, etc.).
And to accelerate and sustain the momentum of mmWave network deployment, base station manufacturers and business need the highest performing mmWave components.

Fujikura's 28GHz mmWave PAAM for 5G base stations meets these customer needs by providing the optimal structure, performance, power consumption, and total cost of ownership (TCO) required for 5G mmWave base stations. It also provides the industry's highest level of performance not only for traditional integrated 5G RAN, but also for new O-RAN and vRAN architectures.
Fujikura plans to further optimize this technology and expand it to 5G millimeter wave bands other than 28 GHz in the future.

Kenji Nishide, General Manager of Fujikura's Electronics Application Technology R&D Center, had this to say about the start of sample provision:
"Millimeter wave is not only important for today's 5G communications, but will also be a key foundation for Beyond 5G/6G networks. Fujikura is committed to this technology for the long term. We are pleased to be able to provide our customers with samples of FutureAccess™, which boasts best-in-class performance, power consumption, and TCO. The industry is currently facing unprecedented challenges due to supply chain issues caused by COVID-19. Fujikura is working closely with our supply chain partners to address this short-term issue. In addition to technical performance, we will provide high levels of cost, lead time, quality/reliability, and supply chain continuity."

Fujikura's "FutureAccess™" is scheduled to start offering evaluation samples to some customers from April 2022. Evaluation boards will also be available at the same time.

For more information on the performance of "FutureAccess™", please visit the special website for the product (https://mmwavetech.fujikura.jp/ja/5g/ ).

In addition, we plan to exhibit samples of "FutureAccess™" at booth Hall 1, 1F-14 at MWC Barcelona 2022, the world's largest mobile-related exhibition, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain from February 28 to March 3. Please stop by if you are at the venue.
