Flying car contest winner

Fujikura Ltd.

Fujikura Ltd. (President: Masahiko Ito), a project team led by Tetra Aviation, a University of Tokyo startup company that Fujikura Composites is providing technical support to, won the Pratt & Whitney Disruptive Award for excellence and a prize of US$100,000 at GoFly, a single-seat air mobility development contest. Whitney Disruptive Award and a cash prize of US$100,000.
GoFly is a so-called "flying car" contest grand sponsored by Boeing. 855 teams from 103 countries participated in the competition, and 24 teams were selected from among them to advance to the final flight judging held in Silicon Valley. The Tetra team, the only Asian team to make it to the final judging, flew their Tetra 3, a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, and was crowned the winner.
In response to the request for a lighter fuselage, Fujikura has supported the development of the Tetra 3 through the study of reducing the size of cables and connectors in the main wiring section, and Fujikura Composites has supported the development of the Tetra 3 through the use of CFRP in the shaft section. Through collaboration with Tetra and other efforts, we will continue to develop products and services that will help realize a mobility society where people can move safely and freely, as envisioned in our 2030 vision, and business
