Fujikura Ltd. (President and CEO: Masahiko Ito) will begin sales the new 90R series mass fusion splicer in January 2020.

The 90R series consists of three models: 90R4, which can connect up to 4 cores, 90R12, which can connect up to 12 cores, and 90R16, which can connect up to 16 cores.
With the new 90R series, the V-groove unit, the heart of multi-fiber fusion splicing, can be replaced along with the electrode rod. A long-standing issue with multi-fiber fusion splicing is that glass particles vaporized during fusion splicing gradually adhere to the electrode rod and V-groove, causing an increase in splice loss. It is not easy to remove glass particles that have adhered to the V-groove, and they must be removed at our repair center. With the new 90R series, the V-groove unit with adhered glass particles can be replaced on-site, immediately resolving the problem on-site.
In addition, the new 90R Series model continues to include the following functions that have been adopted from previous models:
- A function that analyzes the thermal emission intensity of Optcal Fiber when heated and calibration the discharge intensity in real time to achieve stable connection loss.
A function that wirelessly connects to the Optcal Fiber Optcal Fiber and automatically rotates the cutting blade using a motor when the cutting blade becomes worn.
A function that wirelessly links to a Optcal Fiber stripper and automatically changes the heating temperature and heating time of the stripper according to the type of Optcal Fiber being connected.
- The ability to fusion splice Spider Web Ribbon, an intermittent fixing tape made of Optcal Fiber with coating diameters of 200 μm and 250 μm, without the need for special accessories.
- Wind shield and heater that open and close automatically.
- Workbench built into the storage case.
