Environment Management of Chemical Substances PRTR Law, Amount of Release and Transfer of Class 1 Designated Chemical Substances Fujikura and domestic group companies disclose the release and transfer amount of chemicals above 1t used in materials and manufacturing to the government in accordance with the PRTR law*. In fiscal year 2016, 19 Fujikura and group plants released 6t and transferred 19t of class 1 designated chemical substances. The Fujikura group's 5th environmental activity guidelines have the goal of reducing the handling of PRTR (reduction of more than 1% of key hazardous substances compared to 2015), with efforts to reduce their usage. Release and transfer saw a reduction of 33.8 tons to 32.2tons. The PRTR Law was revised and in 2010 the number of designated chemicals increased from 354 to 462. The amount of class 1 designated chemical substances handled at the 19 workplaces of all group companies in 2015 was 817t. In 2016, by reducing use of solvents and plasticizers, the amount was reduced by 7% compared to 2015. The mainly used substances of antimonous or lead compounds, bis phtalate, (2-ethylexl), etc. are used as additives for plastic and rubber materials, and xylene and toluene, etc. are used in such things as ink solvents and gasoline for transport vehicles. In an effort to reduce the release and transfer of these chemicals, we promote changing to lead-free, green materials, and changing to recycled materials for use in manufactured goods. *PRTR LAW: A law concerning the reinforcement of improvements in handling and management of the emission rates of specified chemicals into the environment.
