Environmental Education

The Fujikura group involves each of our employees in energy saving and recycling activities, implementing environmental education so that all employees work to protect the Earth's environment during their daily work routine. The Fujikura group tries to raise awareness in the lectures on environment held during new employee training, by regularly holding OJT in the workplace as well as ISO14001 education company-wide and in each section, and specialized education for each job.

Fujikura held a seminar about converting to 2015 ISO14001 standards for environmental managers and inspectors given by a visiting lecturer in July of 2016. 33 people participated and were able to understand the standards and main points of revision in detail after the explanation.

2015 Conversion Seminar

General environmental education has been implemented every year for all members at the Suzuka office.

In 2016, 10 sessions were held from May 13th until June first and 371 members attended. The results of the previous year's efforts and plans for the current year's efforts were explained, and each person learned how they can participate in energy-saving and waste-reduction activities.

-Numazu Office/2017 New Employee Education

At the Numazu office, education for 2 new major career path employees was held regarding involvement with environmental activities and Fujikura Group's CSR activity principle on April 4th. Specifically, the training covered explanations about chemicals in the training room, and after questions were answered, they observed the different types of waste produced from the plants and how waste water from the factory was finally disposed of, thus seeing just what kind of waste is produced at the plant.

Also, on May 9th training was held on how the Numazu plant would be involved in environmental activities during their specialized training at the factory. Since they had already had training on Fujikura's CSR involvement during general training, the contents were focused specifically on the Numazu plant. They received an explanation on materials and were able to confirm the characteristics of the waste products of that plant by seeing conditions of the waste itself.

-Ishioka Office/ISO14001: 2015 Education

A course was held at the Ishioka office for internal inspectors and hopefuls on the necessary items for conversion to the ISO14001 2015 standards in March of 2015, before conversion. The lecture was given by inspectors licensed for 2015 standards and held following the work processes at the plant. The aim was to use ISO14001 more effectively as a tool for improving work.

-Yonezawa Wire/Environmental Emergency Response Training Implemented

At Yonezawa Wire, emergency response training is held once a year as part of the environmental committee's activities. In response to the wire lubricant leak accident in February of 2016, monitoring of waste water was strengthened and a final drainage gate was installed as a way to monitor waste water to prevent river runoff for FY2016. Because the equipment's use and emergency response methods had changed, joint training and education for handling of monitoring equipment and operation of the drainage gate in emergency situations was held in the company and on the grounds by Fujikura group company representatives.

Fujikura Solutions promotes separation of waste products and recycling with the goal of reducing waste. For continued promotion of these activities, education was implemented for separation and handling of waste products, and waste disposal sites.

Fujikura Solutions/Waste Separation Education

-Fujikura Precision/Garbage Separation Education (valuables and waste)
At Fujikura Precision, garbage separation education was held for all employees as an entry in the 2016 environmental goals.

Twice every week, each group's environmental committee held education on garbage separation. As a result, valuables (waste plastics) increased by roughly 1.7 times (12.4t) compared to the previous year, showing the value of the education. We will continue holding environmental education, including on separation.

Environmental Activities and Near Miss Collection System

Information on environmental trouble in Fujikura and group companies is gathered and shared quickly, as per Fujikura Group's environmental trouble communication manual, in an effort to prevent similar problems from re-occurring.

Response to Environmental Grievances

No. of 2016 Claims/Response Actions

In 2016 the Fujikura group received 1 environmental grievance. A noise complaint was received from homes near the Numazu plant. The Numazu City Environmental Policy Division came to the plant in response to the complaint and held an investigation. It was thought the noise from excavation in the factory leaked from an open door. Once noise dampening measures were taken and the level of noise was checked again, the factory was re-opened. As a response, work will only be held after dampening measures are taken and excavation methods are examined to reduce noise, and the noise level is checked with a sound level meter. We also made it known at our company's and Fujikura group company's plants so it would not occur again.
