Achievement of the first Domestically-manufactured Fiber Laser with an Output of 10kW

April 20, 2017

Fujikura Ltd. (President & CEO: Masahiko Ito) has developed the first fiber laser with an output of more than 10kW to be produced by a domestic manufacturer.

The Fujikura Group is engaged in the manufacture of fiber lasers as light sources used for the processing of materials, a product with a growing market. The Fujikura Group possesses all the technical know-how required to develop and manufacture fiber lasers including not only optical fiber and semiconductor-related technologies, but also cooling technologies. Fujikura has now fused these various technologies to realize an increase in the previous maximum fiber laser output of 6kW to more than 10kW (10.4kW). In addition, we have achieved a high rate of efficiency of conversion from electric power to laser light of 40% (with DC supply) even at an output of 10kW.

High fiber laser output was achieved by integrating the results of the latest developments in technology including increased semiconductor excitation laser output, enhanced laser resonator efficiency, improved optical component performance and optical fiber nonlinear optical effect suppression.

We will implement phased application of the technology developed during this undertaking to high-output fiber lasers for material processing to promote the realization of products with high added value.

Fujikura will continue with its efforts to enhance fiber laser technology and expand its lineup of fiber laser products to provide new solutions in response to requests from customers.
