Fujikura Group Basic Principles for Safety and Health
Fujikura Group Occupational Health and Safety Policy(Established on 1 April, 2021)
Occupational health and safety management is the basis of all our activities, as well as an important corporate foundation and corporate value itself.
The management and all employees of the Fujikura Group will place the highest priority on safety in work practices and work on creating a safe and comfortable work environment, maintaining and enhancing mental and physical health. (The basic principle has been translated into English, Thai, Chinese, Spanish, and German as well as Japanese, and is being rolled out to group companies.)
In this regard, the Fujikura Group will implement the following:
- 1.We will comply with legal and other occupational health and safety requirements.
- 2.We will set specific targets related to occupational health and safety, implement measures and evaluate the results, and make continuous improvements.
- 3.All divisions will conduct risk assessments and work to reduce risks.
- 4.We will promote maintaining and enhancing mental and physical health and support improving the working environment and the health management of employees so that they can work actively.
- 5.We will put the necessary resources to continuously improve our occupational health and safety management systems through consultation with and participation by employees.

Fujikura Group Promotion System of Occupational Safety and Health Activities
The Fujikura Group's health and safety activities are supervised by the Director in charge of Occupational Safety and Health, and promoted under the responsibility of the president.
Recognizing the need to make equipment intrinsically safe in order to prevent the occurrence of disasters, The EHS Management Center is playing a central role in strengthening corporate governance and promoting improvements in health and safety management. It is also working with the Health Administration Center, which handles health management operations, in implementing activities.

Promoting Risk Assessment
Proactive initiatives centered on risk assessment are positioned as important activities for reducing occupational accidents in the safety and health management system. We continue to implement risk mitigation activities for risks that have already been identified. At the same time, we are also working to identify potential risks that have not yet been recognized, and consider these activities as perpetual efforts to foster a culture of safety based on the common theme of reducing all risks to a tolerable level.
Health & Safety Patrols
Starting in fiscal 2010, we launched our OSHMS*, and since then have confirmed the progress made by each of our works, reviewed the structure, conducted safety patrols, and worked to raise the level of safety.
The EHS Management Center began conducting health & safety patrols at Group company sites in Japan in FY2016 and at Group company sites overseas in FY2018 to confirm health and safety activities at each location and ensure penetration of Fujikura’s view on inherent safety. In FY2020, health & safety patrols were conducted remotely via Web conferences because the COVID-19 pandemic made business travel and visits difficult.

"Let's steadily foster a safety culture with mutual enlightenment that everyone does!"
"Mutual enlightenment" in the slogan is essential to vitalize and sustain occupational health and safety activities. This is based on the premise of further enhancing mutual communication, respecting each other, and building a relationship of trust. It also means deepening awareness and understanding and improving individual abilities.
Under the slogan like this, let us all work together to create a safe and pleasant working environment as well as maintain and promote physical and mental health by taking the following Key Measures in light of the challenges faced by each workplace.
Major Activities of FY2020
We are working to mitigate risks at all Fujikura Group sites, mainly through risk assessments and safety patrols. To foster a culture of safety at Fujikura, we are also rolling out activities to heighten the safety awareness of everyone who works at Fujikura and each Group company.
In FY2020, we conducted courses on heatstroke, inherent safety, and hands-on hazard training for employees in Japan and conducted health and safety training for managers of overseas locations, as part of those efforts.
The Fujikura Group Safety and Health Conference is held twice a year to align the direction of such activities, communicate messages from management, and provide an opportunities to share various kinds of information and discuss them among team members.

Establishment of Our Safety Pledge
In April 2016, a fatal accident occurred at a domestic affiliated company. In order not to waste valuable lives that have been lost, all Fujikura Group employees swear a strong commitment to safety that they will not cause a serious accident again. On April 11, the date of occurrence of the accident, the Fujikura Group established the Safety Pledge Day and issued Our Safety Pledge.
The Safety Pledge Day (President's message) is distributed to all Group companies in Japan and overseas as well as new pledges for safety.
No fatal accidents have occurred in the Fujikura Group since fiscal 2017.

Approach of "Specifie Serious Accident"
The Fujikura Group has been working to prevent recurrence of similar accidents by sharing information on accidents that have occurred at Group companies.
Accidents that are highly likely to be serious accidents are designated as “specified significant accidents” and Fujikura has issued “Instructions for deploying Countermeasures to Specific Significant Accidents within the Group” to instruct each company to investigate specified accidents and respond.
Two accidents were handled as “specified significant accidents” in both FY2016 and FY2017, but there have been no such accidents since FY2019.
Disasters Prevention Activities
Basic Principles and Policies
The Fujikura Group established its business continuity policies in March 2012, and also formulated the business continuity master plan as well as the plan to maintain a functioning headquarters for business continuity.

In line with the following principles, we will foster business continuity management (BCM) so that we can continue to fulfill our corporate social responsibility and supply our products and services in a stable manner even in the event of an emergency.

- 3.Implement precautionary measures to protect the assets indispensable for business continuity
- 4.Contribute to society by continuing to conduct the social infrastructure support business

Group Emergency Management Headquarters Drill
The base scenario for this drill was widespread flood damage in every region nationwide and a heightened risk of overflow and flooding in Koto-ku. It assumed flooding of the head office building and the actions that should be taken in response were considered. Afterward, specialists evaluated the drill and confirmed checks and actions to further improve the Group's Business Continuity Plan (BCP).
Headquarters Disaster Countermeasure Training
On January 27, 2020, a disaster headquarters drill was conducted at the head office. The purpose of the drill was to ensure that the disaster information gathering and system would function effectively by actually performing the initial response to the establishment of a disaster headquarters at the head office in the event of an earthquake directly under the Tokyo metropolitan area.
The drill starts with the gathering of all task force members after the occurrence of the earthquake. Through this training, participants will confirm and learn how to quickly assemble each team member, quickly set up the equipment necessary for the headquarters to function, and start up the equipment.
The activities of the task force will also be included in the training. Through the training, participants will learn how to confirm the safety of employees, gather information on building conditions, infrastructure, traffic conditions, etc., and how to respond quickly and accurately to various problems that may arise.
During this drill, we also used an emergency power supply for backup in case of a power outage at the head office during the drill.
After the drill, each group reflected on their experiences and identified areas for improvement for the next drill, leading to improvements in the head office's Basic Plan for the Continuity of Functions (BCP).

Safety Confirmation System and the "Disaster Control Card" which can be carried by Employees
Based on the idea that individual employees are important assets for Fujikura, we are implementing a range of disaster control measures against large Nankai Trough earthquakes as well as inland earthquakes in the metropolitan area, all of which are predicted to occur in the near future. The disaster control measures include the distribution of "disaster control cards," which employees are expected to carry, and the operation of the safety confirmation system.
Safety Confirmation System
The Fujikura has been implementing its safety confirmation system since 2010 in order to confirm the safety of employees and their families in the event of a disaster as its first priority responsibility. All results of the system operation are reported to the top executives.
"Disaster Control Card" which can be carried by Employees
The Fujikura distributes disaster control cards to employees. To help employees protect themselves in the event of a disaster, the card contains information on items that are essential for the protection of their lives, such as actions to be taken in each region during a large earthquake, a checklist to prepare for disasters, and responses to be made with regard to the safety confirmation system.
Anti-Disaster Activities at each Works
On October 9, 2019, the Suzuka works conducted a comprehensive disaster drill at the plant under the guidance of the Suzuka City Fire Department on the assumption of a large-scale earthquake. After evacuation drills, first aid drills, firefighting activities, and water spraying drills by the self-defense fire brigade were conducted. We will continue to conduct daily drills to be prepared for "unexpected disasters.

Numazu works conducted a disaster drill on September 26, 2019, assuming the occurrence of a sudden earthquake.
The training included primary and secondary evacuation drills, firefighting drills, and a lecture on how to use an AED by a specialist. We will further improve our awareness of disaster prevention on a daily basis so that we can respond calmly in case of an emergency.
