Health and Productivity Management

Fujikura Group Health Management Declaration

On January 1st of 2014, the Fujikura group released the "Fujikura Group Occupational Safety and Health Pledge." This pledge defines the importance of employee health as a management resource and announces our intention to actively and strongly support both organizational health efforts and individual-driven health. The Fujikura group intends to contribute to society as a model health management business.

Fujikura Group Health Management Declaration

The Fujikura Group believes that employee health is one of our most important management resources. We support individuals in taking care of their own health, while we also promote organizational activities for healthcare as part of our goal to be a corporate group that is appreciated by customers, highly evaluated by society and whose employees work in vigor.

The Fujikura Group's Health and Productivity Management

Background to the Initiative

In 2010, the Fujikura group acknowledged the promotion of employee health and disease prevention as an important business issue, and rated a solution as an important measure. The Fujikura group's mid-term management plan "MT 2015" outlines the principle that "corporate competitive strength is based on good employee health." In order to remain a vital enterprise 10 or 20 years in the future, we must have healthy employees. Given this reasoning, we have resolved to advance efforts promoting employee health. As such, Fujikura established its internal "Healthcare Solution Group" the next year in 2011.

When Fujikura resolved to provide employees with programs to promote health and prevent illnesses, we began by seeking effective service providers on the open market. However, the term "health management" was not commonly known at the time, and no such service providers existed. As such, Fujikura developed its own "Fujikura Group Health Promotion Program" as of January 2013.

This program uses ICT techniques to accumulate and apply health-related data, effectively supporting the independent health activities of individual employees. Pedometers are required for participants, and are distributed to employees who wish to participate in the program. Measurements can me made easily with body composition and blood pressure monitors installed at each business center. We also actively and vigorously support activities outside of the facilities, conducting real-world events and seminars to spread information on health information tracking using smartphones and other means.

Policies and Targets

There are two underlying policies to promote the health management of the Fujikura Group.
One is shown on the "Criteria for the management of employees' health and safety and for ethical considerations". "6.Promotion of a safe, hygienic work environment and health management" is written in the Section Six.

The other is the "Fujikura Group Basic Principles for Safety and Health". Is in Section Four, there is a phrase "4.We will foster our health both mentally and physically and endeavor to manage our health in an autonomous manner".

Fujikura Group Basic Principles for Safety and Health

Safety is the basis of all our business operations. The Fujikura Group's management and all its employees will conduct business operations giving first priority to safety and legal compliance, thereby creating safe and comfortable workplaces and fostering their own mental and physical health.

As stated in the Fujikura Group Health Management Declaration announced in December 2013, the Fujikura Group supports individual employees in taking care of their own health while also promoting organizational healthcare activities based on the belief that employee health is one of its most important management resources. By conducting these employee health promotion activities, the Group aims to become a corporate group that is appreciated by customers, highly evaluated by society and whose employees work in vigor.

Health Promotion Program Implemented by the Group

Fujikura Ltd. launched the health promotion and illness prevention program for its employees in January 2013, aiming to become a corporate group whose employees work in vigor. Encouraged by the great results achieved through the program, we formulated the Fujikura Group Health Management Declaration on January 1, 2014, and have been working to expand the target of the program to include more and more Group companies. We aim to foster health and productivity management across the Group by fostering health promotion and illness prevention activities at more Group companies.

Initiatives in FY2016

Nordic Walking uses poles to ensure that muscles are stimulated all over the body, and is said to burn roughly 20% more energy than normal walking. Fujikura works with the Caravan Corporation (an affiliate of Fujikura Rubber Ltd.) who deal in poles, and Nordic Walking trial sessions are held at each of the Fujikura Group companies as well as at their location. Many employees continue with the sport after the trial, and many participants who choose to continue the exercise at home have mentioned successful weight loss and stamina gains.
