Labor Practices Health and Productivity Management Fujikura Group Health Management Declaration On January 1st of 2014, the Fujikura group released the "Fujikura Group Occupational Safety and Health Pledge." This pledge defines the importance of employee health as a management resource and announces our intention to actively and strongly support both organizational health efforts and individual-driven health. The Fujikura group intends to contribute to society as a model health management business. Fujikura Group Health Management Declaration The Fujikura Group believes that employee health is one of our most important management resources. We support individuals in taking care of their own health, while we also promote organizational activities for healthcare as part of our goal to be a corporate group that is appreciated by customers, highly evaluated by society and whose employees work in vigor. The Fujikura Group's Health and Productivity Management Background to the Initiative In 2010, the Fujikura group acknowledged the promotion of employee health and disease prevention as an important business issue, and rated a solution as an important measure. The Fujikura group's mid-term management plan "MT 2015" outlines the principle that "corporate competitive strength is based on good employee health." In order to remain a vital enterprise 10 or 20 years in the future, we must have healthy employees. Given this reasoning, we have resolved to advance efforts promoting employee health. As such, Fujikura established its internal "Healthcare Solution Group" the next year in 2011. When Fujikura resolved to provide employees with programs to promote health and prevent illnesses, we began by seeking effective service providers on the open market. However, the term "health management" was not commonly known at the time, and no such service providers existed. As such, Fujikura developed its own "Fujikura Group Health Promotion Program" as of January 2013. This program uses ICT techniques to accumulate and apply health-related data, effectively supporting the independent health activities of individual employees. Pedometers are required for participants, and are distributed to employees who wish to participate in the program. Measurements can me made easily with body composition and blood pressure monitors installed at each business center. We also actively and vigorously support activities outside of the facilities, conducting real-world events and seminars to spread information on health information tracking using smartphones and other means. Policies and Targets There are two underlying policies to promote the health management of the Fujikura Group. One is shown on the "Criteria for the management of employees' health and safety and for ethical considerations". "6.Promotion of a safe, hygienic work environment and health management" is written in the Section Six. The other is the "Fujikura Group Basic Principles for Safety and Health". Is in Section Four, there is a phrase "4.We will foster our health both mentally and physically and endeavor to manage our health in an autonomous manner". Criteria for the Management of Employees' Health and Safety and for Ethical Considerations 1.Prohibition of child labor and restriction of juvenile labor 2.Prohibition of forced labor 3.Prohibition of discrimination 4.Prohibition of bodily punishment, abuse and harassment 5.Appropriate labor time management 6.Promotion of a safe, hygienic work environment and health management 7.Provision of fair, impartial compensation 8.Respect for the rights of workers Fujikura Group Basic Principles for Safety and Health Safety is the basis of all our business operations. Specific Activities 1.We will comply with safety- and health-related laws and regulations and protect our occupational safety and health based on the in-house rules and standards. 2.We will implement specific safety and health plans and evaluate the results in order to make continuous improvements. 3.We will work to eliminate the occurrence of labor accidents through risk and toxicity assessments and by setting and implementing measures to reduce the risk of labor accidents. 4.We will foster our health both mentally and physically and endeavor to manage our health in an autonomous manner. 5.We will improve our safety and health awareness through systematic learning. As stated in the Fujikura Group Health Management Declaration announced in December 2013, the Fujikura Group supports individual employees in taking care of their own health while also promoting organizational healthcare activities based on the belief that employee health is one of its most important management resources. By conducting these employee health promotion activities, the Group aims to become a corporate group that is appreciated by customers, highly evaluated by society and whose employees work in vigor. Health Promotion Program Implemented by the Group Fujikura Ltd. launched the health promotion and illness prevention program for its employees in January 2013, aiming to become a corporate group whose employees work in vigor. External Evaluation "Excellence in Corporate Health Management - White 500" Certification Our company qualified for the "Excellence in Corporate Health Management" list chosen jointly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan Health Committee. The White 500 is a system that honors and commends corporations that show excellence in health management. The plan is for 500 companies to qualify by 2020, and 235 companies were chosen in 2016. The Fujikura Group was recognized for the active participation of employees in health promotion programs like our step count events. Excellent Facility Management Award Received At the 11th Japan Facility Management Awards (JFMA) sponsored by the Japan Facility Management Association, two Fujikura efforts won particular attention. Specifically, our renovated meeting corner FHAB ("Fab", Fujikura Health Activity Base) drew attention as a representative of spots selected for themes of ease of conversation and accessibility of information. Similarly, our ongoing real PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) activity events won praise as a means of fostering an atmosphere that encourages action toward health promotion. Fujikura will now plan lateral developments to other locations in line with their work styles, while continuing to analyze FHAB performance. Second Qualification for "Tokyo Sports Promotion Business" Fujikura was certified as a "Tokyo Sports Promotion Business" once again in FY2016, continuing from its certification in FY2015, the year Tokyo inaugurated its "Tokyo Prefecture Sports Promotion Business Certification System." This system recognizes businesses that support the field of sports and businesses that engage in efforts to promote sports among employees. Fujikura was recognized for its automobile commute monitoring program, its support for participation in competitive business sporting tournaments, its Nordic walking competitions, and more. Initiatives in FY2016 Nordic Walking Trial Session Nordic Walking uses poles to ensure that muscles are stimulated all over the body, and is said to burn roughly 20% more energy than normal walking. Fujikura works with the Caravan Corporation (an affiliate of Fujikura Rubber Ltd.) who deal in poles, and Nordic Walking trial sessions are held at each of the Fujikura Group companies as well as at their location. Many employees continue with the sport after the trial, and many participants who choose to continue the exercise at home have mentioned successful weight loss and stamina gains. Step Count Events In step count events, each employee uses a provided pedometer to compete for steps in a virtual environment. These events have been held 8 times as of FY2016, beginning with the first event in FY2013. The FY2016 event was held in Kumamoto on a theme of "Weaving Friendships in the Fujikura Group," out of a desire to support earthquake recovery. Participants may "finish" the event by maintaining an average of 8,000 steps per day over two months, and the activities also serve as an opportunity for communication through elements like inter-departmental competitions and birthday-based team competitions. Participation in TABLE FOR TWO TABLE FOR TWO (TFT) is a social contribution activity initiated in Japan by the NPO named TABLE FOR TWO International with a view to reducing the imbalance between developing countries facing the problems of starvation and malnutrition, and developed countries suffering the problems of obesity and lifestyle-related diseases. When employees buy a healthy lunch meal provided under the TFT program, 20 yen will be donated through the TFT secretariat to developing countries to provide local children with school lunches. It is said that a lunch can be offered to a school child at the cost of 20 yen, and so employees can donate a meal to a child every time they buy a meal for themselves under the program.Fujikura Ltd. began selling healthy TFT lunches at its head office cafeteria in January 2014 to support the TFT activity. This healthy lunch, a low-calorie meal composed of a variety of vegetables, is sold every Wednesday. It is well balanced in terms of nutrition and is indeed good for health. Employees can eat a healthy meal by choosing the TFT lunch, and by doing so can also donate to children in developing countries. Thus, the company is providing employees with opportunities to make social contributions easily and to also help children in developing countries while becoming healthy themselves. Introducing and Applying Presenteeism Measurements Fujikura was an early adherent of the concept of presenteesim - currently a popular topic in the fields of productivity improvement and industrial hygiene - and since FY2013, we have run an annual presenteeism measurement. Presenteesim refers to situations in which productivity drops due to poor health, even when an employee does not feel ill enough to take leave from work. Along with productivity, time management, and work results, it is used as one of the Fujikura Group health promotion program's objective evaluation parameters. Development of Standing Model Workplaces Using Height-Adjustable Desks Fujikura is aware of research in the US and Europe on the negative health effects of extended sitting, and has begun effect analysis on standing workplace conversions using a model office in our health management promotion section as of FY2015. Allowing employees to consciously select between sitting and standing based on the task at hand has produced effects such as modulation of work styles and better sleep at night. Over FY2016, Fujikura distributed adjustable-height desks to all workplaces, with a focus on those that requested a desk.
