Policy and Guidelines
In order to achieve that goal, we are working towards achieving targets from two directions by using renewable energy, promoting energy-saving investment and reducing energy usage such as ZEB (Zero Energy Building).
Basic Year of CO2 Emissions, Concept of Basic Unit
- Fujikura Group's CO2 emissions are calculated by multiplying energy consumption by fiscal year by energy by the CO2 conversion factor per energy type
- In the Environmental Activity Management Guidelines for 2016 to 2020, adopt a method that makes it easier to understand reduction results by fixing this conversion factor to the base year specified by the reduction target and calculating the CO2 emissions of each year

Total GHG Emissions and Used Energy
The total amount of GHG emitted in FY 2017 was 435 tons in total for CO2, 172 thousand tons in domestic emissions and 263 thousand tons in overseas.
The energy used was 90% electric power, and the use as fuel was 10%.
Calculation of CO2 Emissions from the Supply Chain (Scopes 1, 2 and 3)
Following the setting of the GHG Protocol* Scope 3 standard in 2011, there are stringent requirements under the CDP and GRI-G4 for companies to disclose information about CO2 emissions from their entire supply chains in addition to CO2 emissions from their own business activities.
Fujikura Ltd. made simplified calculations for all the GHG Protocol Scope 3 categories. The following shows the Scopes 1, 2 and 3 calculation results from fiscal 2013 to 2016.

FY2017 Activity Results
Fujikura increased CO2 emissions by 100 thousand tons due to the reinforcement of fiber-optic manufacturing facilities at the Sakura Works and restructuring of the power cable business, which increased 1.0% compared to the base year in FY2013. However, we are actively promoting energy saving investment such as improvement of production facilities, improvement and renewal of office and clean room air conditioning equipment, renewal of factory utility equipment to energy saving type, and factory mercury lamp lighting.
In addition, at headquarters and R&D center, we switched to electricity by hydroelectric power generation, reducing annual amount of 3,300 tons, 3.3% of CO2 emitted by our company, and achieving zero CO2 emissions associated with energy use at headquarters building.
In the domestic group, the number of bases increased due to the reorganization of the business, and the CO2 emission amount was 72,000 tons, 6.5% compared with the base year in 2013. However, we are promoting energy conservation by improving production facilities, updating to energy-saving type air compressors, renewal of air conditioning equipment, LED lighting of factory lighting, and so on.
As a result of such efforts, four companies of the Group have been consolidating energy conservation for the third year in a row under the "Classification of Operators based on the Regular Report on Energy Conservation Law at Factories and Plants" (submitted in FY2007) published by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. It was evaluated as a good business (S class).
CO2 emissions in the overseas group increased to 263,000 tons, but CO2 emissions per unit of production has improved by 3.0% compared with the previous fiscal year due to improved productivity and other factors.

Activities Pertaining to Shipping and Transportation
For energy per unit improvements in distribution, the goal was a 1% reduction (43.1KL/kiloton) from the previous year, but the actual number of 42.3KL/kiloton was a slight increase. Because there was a large decrease in electric cable shipments in fiscal year 2017 in many cases appropriate freight assignments were difficult and per unit consumption worsened due to loading rate drops.
Also, effective use of resources continues and we promote the re-use of packing materials and wooden drums. Additionally, 2-story jigs (proper name: electric wire drum palette) were jointly developed to increase load factors.

Promotion of the Ministry of the Environment
As a corporate group friendly to the global environment, the Fujikura Group is participating and registering the new national campaign "COOL CHOICE" for the prevention of global warming towards 2030, carried out by the Ministry of the Environment, and is proceeding with aggressive efforts. Also, we are working on energy saving, cool biz in summer, and warm biz in winter.
Promotion of Installation of LED Lights
The Fujikura group promotes the installation of LED lights. In 2016, Sakura, Suzuka, and Numazu Works used government grants to accelerate changing factory mercury lamps for LED lights. We promote CO2 emission reduction and energy-saving by replacing mercury lamps with LED for the 2020 limits in accordance with the conclusion of the "Minamata Convention on Mercury" and focusing on LED lights for over-head lighting.
Efforts on Energy Conservation at Business Sites
In fiscal 2017, the Sakura Works carried out energy-saving improvements for air-conditioning equipment for clean rooms at fiber-optic manufacturing plants that operate day and night throughout the year. Conventionally, the load of the water-cooled package air conditioner fluctuated according to the operating condition of the production facility and the outside air temperature, and the cooling water temperature also fluctuated. This time, we installed a temperature sensor in the cooling water circulation system, monitor the cooling water temperature, and developed a technology to control the circulation pump so that the cooling water temperature can be kept constant. As a result, CO2 emissions have been reduced by 151 tons per year.
In addition, we are updating the large-scale external control equipment of the clean room systematically and promoting energy saving of utility equipment.
