The origin of Fujikura Group social contribution activities
The history of Fujikura Group 's social contribution activities began in 1919, when Harukichi Nakauchi used his own money to establish Fujikura Gakuen, a facility for the intellectually handicapped person. Since then, many of our predecessors have not only supported the school, but have also engaged in a variety of social contribution activities, which have become part of Fujikura Group 's DNA and are cherished and passed down to this day. We will continue to treasure our support for Fujikura Group 's social contribution activities."
What is Fujikura Gakuen?
The social welfare corporation Fujikura Gakuen was established on June 7, 1919 in Motomachi, Izu Oshima, by Harukichi Nakauchi (former auditor), the younger brother of handicapped person 's founder Zenpachi Fujikura, who donated a large sum of his personal assets (approximately 2 billion yen in today's currency) as well as 130 square meters of land and buildings on Izu Oshima for the benefit of people and children with intellectual disabilities. Currently, there are facilities on Izu Oshima and in Tama (Hachioji City), with around 100 staff members providing education and welfare to around 130 students on a 24-hour basis.
