Phase 3

Sales drama

The FSM-20 was initially met with some skepticism, but its functional characteristics were met with praise and it soon became the de facto standard.

With the completion of the "FSM-20," the development team was confident of business success, so they set off on a pilgrimage around the world with a demo unit in hand. That's right, they started their approach with the global market in mind from the very start. They enthusiastically knocked on the doors of customers, but no one was convinced. "Can you see the core directly? I can't believe that," they said, refusing to take them seriously. They also said, "The main body can't be separate. It needs to be more compact!" and so on. The first year was full of hardships, but all of the customers tried it out. When they actually used it, everyone was amazed at its functional characteristics. And their amazement soon turned to praise.

In the United States, Bell Labs introduced a large number of products. This track record served as a stamp of approval, and Fujikura's reputation rose rapidly, igniting business. In the United States in particular, Fujikura's fusion splicers were even given the name "PAS (Profile Alignment System)" and they took the global market by storm.
