Environmental Management Action Guidelines

Fujikura Environmental Management Action Guidelines, Version 4

Since fiscal 2011, we have been fostering environmental activities to achieve the new targets set in line with the Fujikura Environmental Management Action Guidelines, Version 4, which we formulated based on the 2015 Mid-Term Business Plan.

We revised the Fujikura Environmental Management Action Guidelines, Version 4 in April 2013 to set the new targets for our environmental activities.

How the meeting was held:: Participants discussed the four subthemes after making a tour of the Fujikura-Kiba Millennium Woods.

Subtheme1 : Environmental management required by local communities

Recommendation 1: Implement measures to introduce the historical achievements of the company and the environmental friendliness of its products and R&D more widely to local communities: Response: We plan to invite local children to tour our plants.
Response: We decided to introduce more about our R&D activities in the CSR report.
Recommendation 2: Clarify the role of the Millennium Woods in relation to the corporate culture and communicate the significance of the bio-garden to local communities and employees: Response: We decided to describe the history of our social contribution activities and relationship between the bio-garden and society in the CSR report and other documents.
Response: We held a panel exhibition on the Millennium Woods in the head office lobby to communicate the significance of the bio-garden.
Recommendation 3: Develop some employees into experts in the Millennium Woods who can communicate its significance directly to local communities.: Response: We held a seminar on biotopes, in which employees participated as volunteers.

Subtheme2 : Environmental measures to be implemented in the globalization of business

Recommendation 4: Localize Fujikura’s products and technologies in each country and region: Response: We established a center to foster environmentally friendly businesses, such as the superconductivity-related business.
Recommendation 5: Implement more environmental measures in developing countries, although the levels of environmental laws and regulations differ by country.: Response: We revised the Global Environment Charter and made examinations concerning the UN Global Compact.

Subtheme3 : Environmental activities in which employees and their families can participate

Recommendation 6: Take time to foster the organization of activities in which employees, their families, retirees of the Fujikura Group and local residents can participate: Response:
- We held a seminar on biotopes.
- We have been investigating a program to invite children to tour our sites.
- We began to conduct surveys on living creatures at our sites.
- We have given generic names for the activities in which employees, their families, retirees of the Group and local residents participate.

Recommendation 7: Have more opportunities to communicate with families of employees and local residents to receive more opinions from society: Response: We held a seminar on biotopes and have been looking to increase such opportunities.

Recommendation 8: Dispatch information as the entire Fujikura Group: Response:
- We plan to improve our global website.
- We plan to introduce more on the environmental initiatives taken by Group companies in the CSR report.
Recommendation 9: Communicate the whole picture of Fujikura to help the public deepen their understanding of the B-to-B company: Response: We plan to organize more activities in which families of employees and local residents can participate sp they can deepen their understanding of Fujikura’s business.
