Silicon Photonic Devices
Lights can be confined in a ultrasmall space of several hundred nanometers if an optical waveguide, which serves as a pathway for lights, is fabricated using silicon. Fujikura develop optical devices such as ultracompact optical modulators which allow high-speed optical signal processing using silicon optical waveguides.
The latest high-speed optical fiber communications permit optical signal transmission at a data rate of 10 gigabits persecond or even higher. In applications to high-speed optical fiber communications, Fujikura perform the development of silicon optical modulators capable of signal generation with ON/OFF ratio (extinction ratio) more than 10 dB.
