RZ-DQPSK 40 Gbit/s full-band tunable optical transponder
We have developed a 40 Gbit/s long-distance optical interface module using multi-level phase modulation. As in conventional amplitude modulation, it is difficult to attain the required characteristics such as OSNR, dispersion tolerance, and optical bandwidth, we have used the RZ-DQPSK format to improve these characteristics. The module has an optional semiconductor optical amplifier, which amplifies the optical output signal to the desired power level. This option eliminates the need for an external Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA), which saves space and reduces the cost of the system.
The optical interface module supports Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) that conforms to the industry standard 40G 300 pin Multi Source Agreement (MSA), and operates at dual rates (43.02 and 44.57 Gbit/s).
