Development of Silica Glass Fiber Fused-end Process for High Power Laser Application

February 8, 2016

Fujikura has developed silica glass fiber fused-end process for high power laser application.

Traditionally, fiber light guide uses epoxy resin for its termination process and it causes burning out trouble due to incident light or reflection light in high power laser application. However, in fused-end process, fiber fused termination eliminates the risk of burnout because of non-epoxy fiber termination structure.
This technology adopts a porus glass capillary for combining fibers and fuses them together. While maintaining the shape of each fiber its original, fused-end fiber with a porus glass capillary exhibits its inherent properties in transmission efficiency and beam profile of single fiber.

This fused-end process can be applied to any assembly products to meet your application needs. A variety of connectors, including FC, SMA or custom designed connectors are available. Fibers of 125μm to 220μm with single to 19 cores can be fitted. Fujikura provide an integrated product from the LD to fiber coupler module to bundle assembly with fusion technology.

This optical fiber product adopting the silica glass fusion technology is expected to be applied for laser beam machines, lighting systems and others with laser diodes as light sources that are becoming higher powered than before.
